To be fair she did have an emotional breakdown in front of a 10 year old boy after his mother said he can't talk to her because she's a creepy weirdo and actually let him have some of her hair and then got mad at his mom when she called her out on it.

They kinda ruined her in s3-4 because Wiener had no idea what to do with her outside of relationship with Don, she was actually really likable in first 2 seasons, "Betty" even spiked as a baby name.
I don't remember what episode was that, but there's a sad monologue in s1 where she tells Don he's all she thinks about and that she just sits at home all day and waits for his return.
Betty was perfect.
