The Wire's probably my favorite work of "man the world sure is shit and broken" storytelling. It feels cynical but not nihilistic, and it actually shows you how and why it's broken, rather than just insisting upon it like in Se7en or something of the sort. (Se7en's a good movie, but I'm turned off by those "the world is more violent than ever what a miserable hellhole" themes, it's basically social commentary for an imaginary exta-violent parallel universe.)

Trolling or not, I can't help but sympathize with him most of the time. I see where you're coming from obviously, he damn near destroyed everything his senpai and associates worked so hard to build and maintain a comfortable life on, and that's some shit that can't be forgiven. But his family business and everything associated with it (the murders, beatings, indifference to suffering, etc) was too much for him, he was the first in his family who wasn't "bout that life". D just didn't have that capacity to be cold and that's what got his ass killed. At least he never actually informed on anyone, just came close. Such a well- written show, man. People are still discussing and dissecting and analyzing these characters with this level of devotion and intrigue, 8 years after the mf went off the air.

First time you really get to see the humanity behind Avon conflicted with the visceral nature of the business and displays the fact that he's not this ho-hum drug dealing badass without any fears. Not only that but his dialogue applies to so many aspects of life outside of lens of the show.
