The main event was a terribly boring lecture consisting of fart jokes and fan service; teasing the upcoming TV series he was in and not much else. He spent a quarter of the time reading Sagan's blue dot, which is nice but shouldn't have cost us because it wasn't his material.
He left at about 2am, and we were all exhausted because we had spent the day busy setting up and tearing down. The whole affair cost nearly 85k. The additional money being for locations, personnel, air fare, Tyson's hotel, catering, etc.
We all decided he was an ass hole. I'd never want to spend 16 hours with a celebrity again."

Newton didn't conceive of calculus in the form you see it today. He also didn't just "come up" with it all on his own. He came up with non-rigorous ideas for it but before him, lots of people were talking about it. It just hadn't been completely formalized. Depending on the format of the journal, the last author on this list is usually the Principal Investigator. You don't have to be a mega genius to get a PhD. You have to charismatic and a slick talker at least. You get the PhD based on how well you defend it to the panel of doctorate degree holders in your field and they say yea or nay based on how well they're convinced of your thesis.
NDT has barely contributed anything to the field he has a PhD in. It's an absolute shame people like that get selected to show off as a public face. He's even been caught fabricating and plagiarizing sources. He's just a good speaker and that's why he's on TV as the smart guy.
