Nolan stopped making capeshit because he STARTED the modern superhero craze and knew that any opportunity to earn prestiege from the genre has evaporated. The genre's dominance is despised by film critics and tacitly a lot of the blame is unfairly put on him.
He did TDKR as a favor to WB and while his future may involve oscar bait, it's clear he doesn't even want to be doing any more superhero movies

Tons of capeshit and other films started to emulate him after BB and TDK. He really didn't even want to do TDKR by the sounds of it, probably why there was a noticeable drop in quality on that one. DC wanted him bad so they've tacked him onto Man of Steel and this expanded universe shit even though it's clear he isn't really involved and doesn't care. He also doesn't seem like one really pursuing Oscars.
Let the man make his memes. At least he makes blockbusters with a few fresh ideas instead of constantly rehashing old stuff or sticking to a set formula meant to generate profit (Disney). Meme on, Based Nolan.

I don't want him making capeshit, I want him making original IP movies like Inception and Interstellar, with cool sci fi plots and ideas. This is why it saddens me that he seemingly is making a straight up warmovie, since he's the only one who does what he does in terms of big blockbuster movies.
