I find it ironic that everybody got mad a director having fun (like they didn't know who Sam Raimi was) and but nobody has a problem with the Avengers essentially being a goof troop where even the hulk has puns.

It's not that I dont like this movie, but that whole emo Peter sequence really didn't fit into the tone that was set in the beginning of the movie, nor did it fit the tone of the movie when it ended. Felt way too campy and silly. It would have been fine if it was in the first Spiderman movie, because that movie was top tier camp, but I digress.
I enjoy the movie (granted I haven't seen it since it came out with the PS3), so don't crucify /tv/.
