They were cool, and I like the angular design. In the making-of you see that they based their shape on fighter jets. I think they could have been more streamlined though, they don't need eight limbs for one, I think that makes the design a but too busy.
And Legendary have the rights for Mothra, Rodan, and Ghidorah for the sequel, so I assume we're going to see them.

I thought the motu designs were one of the weaker aspects of the film at first but in motion they're pretty cool. Very insectoid which is always a nice counterpoint to Godzilla

Literally NO ONE wants to see this. Not everything needs to be a fucking cinematic universe. That 2005 movie barely made 500 million WW on a 200 million budget which is just barely breaking even. In the year it came out it was only the 5th highest grossing movie and doesn't even break the top 100 highest grossing overall.
Theres some kind of misconception that modern audiences give a fuck about these old classic properties. That's why we have this Ben Hur remake and this upcoming Universal Cinematic Universe based around Frankenstein and Dracula and shit. People don't care about these properties and bringing them back out is stupid as hell. A 15 year old dude is not going to go see a 150 million dollar Frankenstein movie.
This is all ignoring the fact that King Kong is nowhere near as big as Godzilla and if they make him that big it's just going to look silly.

I liked it. The music and atmosphere was amazing. There are a lot of fights but it's like Cloverfield in that it kind of teases you with actually seeing them until the end, so yes a lot of them are interruped. You mainly see them fight at night in Hawaii and in SF.
Godzilla himself only has about 8 minutes of actual screentime, but thats not at all unusual for a godzilla movie (see pic)

Not a particular good one, when cinematography gets in the way and becomes repetitiously annoying enough to make the viewer aware of it. Lots of specific repeated camera angles, lots of nonsensical dramatic shots that questions basic logic even with suspense of disbelief turned on.
Its a dumb movie made for the same audience as transformers, but pretends its smarter because godzilla isnt the main character, while just as dumb action is packed in the rest of it.
Im tempted to watch it again as 'how not to make a movie' fun project.

I suspended my disbelief where the military ships were sailing next to godzilla. It was simple enough to forgive. Another shot that irked me a bit was the dramatic submarine unvailing. Dozens of helicopters buzzing around shining light on the troops in the jungle, instead on the environment. The troops essentially knocked their heads on the submarine and that triggers the helicopter light to shine on the big fucking submarine sticking out like you couldnt miss it. I understand the importance of tension leading up to unvailing something unbelievably shocking, but the "wheres half the mountain go? Oops" and the whole part related to it and this was a bit insulting. I have no doubt you could show these things without looking like a parody of your own self. These scenes felt as dumb as the helicopter scenes in 2001, or whenever it was, Godzilla. Maybe they wanted to re-create the oldschool absurdity that could've gotten a pass 30 years ago but if that was the case, the other parts weren't made to cooperate.
What angers me is that i came to relax and watch a movie but these things literally assaulted me and gangraped me during the film without me expecting it. The general dumbness is reoccurring in all aspects of the movie so theres no space to fall back and sink into relaxation mode. The script is bad, the characters are unlikable and forgettable, except the motivated scientist man that dies early on. The soldier boy has alot of introductions that start with exactly the same camera pan over and over. Theres obviously more i forgot after years and i don't consider these the 'classic essential giant monster' bits that a movie can't do without. I can excuse those, but for some elements i think the bar has gotten a little higher than it was in 2001.
That said, i liked the start, the death of the wife was dramatic and impactfull, the scientist man was motivated and interesting, the godzilla and insectoids looked damn cool, their powers were interesting.
