It's a film about existing characters whose character traits have been public knowledge for decades. It's Batman versus Superman, not Rorschach in a Nite Owl costume versus Dr. Manhattan. He already made Watchmen, if he wanted to make BVS, it should have had B and S in it. That's an absolutely valid criticism. Not really. Not that it's not also a valid criticism to say that a film isn't historically accurate. That's part the burden of trying to make a movie a movie based on a story and characters that are common knowledge. You don't HAVE to be accurate, but if you're not you'd better be bringing a lot to the table. Braveheart got away with being inaccurate because it was still a coherent, good movie. BVS doesn't get away with being inaccurate because the characters are being sabotaged AND the movie is an incoherent sack of dogshit.

I'm not a huge fan of Marvel films, but they definitely did a solid job of unifying the movie universe. Instead of complaining about the source material, I think most people wanted DC to do the same thing Marvel did. The source material doesn't matter at this point because Marvel pretty much makes these movies for people that don't even read comic books.
