The only part I didn't like about that scene, was Adrian Brody not getting shot by the tommy gun.

The guy shooting it was completely green.
>>
Family friendly big ape movie.

SUDDENLY BRAINEATING WORMS
>>
>>67631341
There's a giant gorilla in this movie?
Must have missed him.
>>
>>67631657
The natives were pretty fockin' spoopy. The whole islands atmosphere is incredibly hostile and unfriendly.

>>67631292
>>67631341
Bugs and such are underutilized in movies. They're such a base fear but they so rarely get used.
>>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxpV9V7lup0

I'm sure there are people who are too young to have seen this scene.
>>
>>67631717
I was too young but it didn't keep my parents from bringing me to the movie. I still liked it.
>>
>>67631712
The natives I could deal with no problem. But I have a huge aversion to imagining being stuck in a swamp surrounded by slimy creatures that want to eat my head and suck out my brain.
>>
>>67631754
I'd imagine the swamp is much worse for most people, me included, but crazy savages aren't exactly 'no problem' either.
>>
>>67631789
Someone should make a movie about just natives and bugs then.
>>
>>67631815
You mean a cannibal movie with terrible insects? I wouldn't know but it's probably been done somewhere.
>>
>>67631842
sounds like something Italians made by the dozen in the 70s/80s.

time for a resurgence

I think that's why the scene was left out of the original film. A giant ape already has a hard time competing with extinct dinosaurs, but when you've got giant bugs and other abominable monsters eating people in a pit, you kind of forget about the ape completely.

I admire Jackson's King Kong but at the same time, I think that he is so passionate about the source material that he felt like he had to have everything he could possibly think of in his version. He kind of made a 3 hour long fanwank out of an 80 minute movie. You can see how passionate he was about the project, but you can also see a serious lack of restraint.
>>
>>67631712
Mix rats with creepy crawlies and/or cephalopods and you've got first class monster material.
>>
>>67631292
>>67631717
I don't need to rewatch this scene to remember that guy who was chopping those worm things apart left and right and then one latched on to his arm and he killed it and then another got his other arm and then they swarmed him and got his head oh god that shit scarred me for life.

>one of the best longest battle vs 2 t-rex
>loud screaming terrifying
>already had villagers "spookiness"
>seems like time to regroup
>climatic battle over, with music and cgi and horn section blaring FOREVER
>t-rex fight didn't ever end
>then silent worms
>kills some of the toughest guys
>without dialogue mostly
>makes everything else so far a family movie
>not even gorey
>not even bloody
>not even manly
>not even identifiable

That shit's Lovecraftian, out of FUCKING nowhere.

Loved it.

This is what makes King Kong more lovecraftian horror then just Man vs. Environment

WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT EVEN.

You know the orginal King Kong is a landmark movie in Cinema History, the first big Special Effects movie that you're use to now it's not even a thing.

Back then it wasn't a thing. King Kong is on the list of movies that changed cinema. It should be Metropolis, but there's only one scene that counted as special effects, when they make the robot gril there's some rings that kinda pulse.

king Kong was the first movie to use special effects full. It's what laid the groundwork for movies to be movies. Not just recorded Stage Shows.

So yeah, fanwank. To all other movie.

That's literally what I was thinking about when I saw this movie in theaters.

Also when I saw this, there was some woman who, during the scene when Watts' character is in some log and a bug touches the inside of her mouth or something (IIRC), let out the loudest scream I've ever heard from anyone. It was intense.

I loved this movie when it came out. Nice to see it's finally finding a cult audience, instead of just being "that pointless blockbuster remake".

>>67634131
I feel like this scene is far too often forgotten because people only remember the worms. Maybe it's just because people don't know enough about centipedes to make it as scary. When I first saw that scene I immediately assumed that on that island the Centipede's venom would be a thousand times stronger, and thus capable of partly paralysing a human-sized prey.

Fuck getting eaten by centipedes in a hollow log, man.

Basically, the gum comes out of the tube through this very specific "mouthpiece"that gives the gum that comes out look like the worm thing. Also it has the exact same color and consistency as the worm, as the other anon pointed out.

It reminds me of the mouth that came out of the alien dog thing from the end of 10 Cloverfield Lane.

>>67635066
it should have been split into two separate movies

only the one that takes place on the island would have been good
>>
>>67639003
I don't know, I feel like if you split them into two movies then the second one might actually work better than it does now, because you could make it all about a giant ape being loose in NYC, rather than it just being the end to cap off the story.

You could bring in new characters, for one, which you then see trying to survive the rampaging hominid's destruction or trying to stop it.

Honestly one of my favourite movies. The ps2 game for it was fucking amazing too.
>>
I doubt the new King Kong movie will ever pull off something like this.
>>
>>67631717
I hate how there doesn't seem to be any weight to the blows of the actors. Obviously they're acting against nothing. But the way the machete just slices clean through with barely a sound. The way the the kid clubs them and the have no weight. No impact on his arm or the instrument he's using. The bug Brody pulls off Serkis looks like it weighs less than nothing. This is the major draw back of cgi. Practical effects would've made this scene feel meaty and tense. At least have something there for the actors to strike or lift and then retouch it digitally.
>>
>>67633937
He'd lost half his leg by that point. Remember those worm fuckers have teeth. Probably just went crazy as he realised what was happening.

Based captain saves them

Based captain also saves them from the storn AND captures king kong

Then when they invite him to the kong showing he flicks his cigarette and denounces them saying he is tired of being around death and walks off into the darkness

Based captain was more competent than any other character

Yeah they never found the original footage, but they have found props. Peter Jackson actually did 3D scans and cat scans of them when making his fan re-creation of the spider pit, and used the scans to make the models as accurate as possible.

Jackson's re-creation isn't the first or only one, either. There's another re-creation of the scene that was never finished, although you can find a few seconds of it on Youtube that appeared in a documentary. In this other version, rather than the sailors getting up from their deadly fall and fighting with the monsters before ultimately getting eaten, in this version the sailors survive by falling in the mud, but they are more helpless to defend themselves, likely because it's implied that they were injured.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lgqu3lDaV0U

It's quite likely that the footage of the dummies falling down to the bottom of the pit was filmed after it was decided to take the spider pit out, because they wanted to establish that all the men who fell off the log died from hitting the ground.
>>
I saw this in theaters when I was 11. The only thing about the movie that was unnerving to me was the villagers ritual dance rave where they are all chanting for KONG. Particularly the part where the women's eyes rolled back into their heads.

However this was a trailer shown before the movie and I was actually very scared by it.

https://youtu.be/EBcoo8i33L0

It didn't help that some time later I visited my dad's office and when he logged me into a computer the office tech guy downstairs tried to contact him by remote desktopping my machine, taking the mouse, opening Word and writing PLEASE CALL ME over and over in increasingly larger font.
