What was Lex Luthor's motivation? If he wanted Superman dead why did he try to prevent Batman from having Kryptonite? More importantly, why did he want Superman dead?

There was an interesting story buried somewhere in this movie. So many of the pieces were there, but the suggestion was awful. At first I didn't understand all the hate, then I realized there is so much shit in this movie that only makes sense if you come into the movie already immersed in comicdom. I will still say I enjoyed it, but I admit as a stand-alone movie it didn't do what it needed to do.

It isn't, but it's not for what he's doing either. It's like those rare occasion when someone randomly greentexts something dumb like "top kek". They're just reacting to something and 99% of people would type that normally, but some autistic chucklefucks feel the need to randomly greentext bits of text for no reason and it just looks stupid.

>Why was Lois in Africa?
She's a reporter for The Daily Planet and she was interviewing a supposed terrorist.
>How did Luthor know who Superman was?
Because Superman went to Africa just to save Lois Lane.
>How did Luthor know that there would be a way to defeat Superman in there?
If there was a way, it was going to be there.
>Why did they give Luthor full access to the ship unmonitored and Zod's body and never question when he disappears inside for hours on end?
Because he got the proper clearance with false kryptonian fingerprints.
>Why did Luthor try to smuggle the Kryptonite in when he was trying to get legal permission to bring it in at the same time?
Because he DIDN'T get legal permission and was going to have it either way.
>Why did Superman care about someone beating up a human slave trader and a pedophile so much when he was getting flak for causing an international incident?
Because the branding was a death sentence in prison.
>How did Luthor know that Superman would show up to catch Lois?
Because he knew who Superman was.
>How did Lois know to go get the spear?
Doomsday was shooting laser beams from his eyes and originated from within the Kryptonian ship crash site.
>Why was Wonder Woman trying to get the photo, when she would have never raised attention if she just never showed up.
To minimize the amount of people potentially able to find her secret.
>When did Superman realize that Batman was Bruce Wayne?
When he heard his conversation with Alfred using superhearing and putting it together on his own.
>How did Luthor know how to make a giant mutant retard?
He was able to learn many things from the ship's library of many planets, including that.
>Why did they build a monument to Superman when the last scene in MoS has him threatening a general and saying the military can't do dick to stop him?
This movie took place nearly 2 years later during which Superman saved countless people.

Dude don't answer wrongly.

Lex already knew who Superman was. He set up the whole thing in Africa for Lois because he knew superman was going to save her and wanted to frame him.

That was the whole plot with Lois Lane, how did people miss that...
>>
>>67620987
>Lex already knew who Superman was.
But how?
>>
>>67620987
So you're telling me that prior to the film, a key plot point is explored. Why would they do that? Why wouldn't they inform the audience some how that Lex already knew? Why wouldn't they show a scene where he realizes who Superman is? How can you ask how did people miss that when it was never shown in the film?
>>
>>67621048
>>67621055
I didn't say the movie is good.
And many people are asking the same question of "How did he know who Superman was?"
But what the other anon said was wrong.

There is no point where he realizes who Superman is. Or at least he knew that Superman had a connection with Lois and maybe later on figured out it was actually Klark Kent.

Lois talks to the black government dude, finds out the bullet was owned by Lex Corp. Asks a bunch of questions. Her last question is "How did he know Superman would be there?" Then we have a flashback of her as a hostage and superman saving her. She then realizes she was bait and then leaves.
>>
>>67620873
>she was interviewing a supposed terrorist
One that was being monitored by the CIA.
Why though? If it was so important then why was it not important anywhere else in the story?
The bullets used to kill the general's men was literally the only point of the story. They called him a terrorist but never said why he was a terrorist.
>Because Superman went to Africa just to save Lois Lane.
That doesn't answer the question at all. His men were already there, implying he knew Superman would show up. If he knew that, why didn't they ever state that he knew?
>If there was a way, it was going to be there.
He was already well into his plan for Superman and Batman to fight. Doomsday was a huge part of that plan, meaning he was betting that there was a way in a Kryptonian ship to kill super powered Kryptonians, that they didn't use in the fight of Metropolis.
>Because he got the proper clearance with false kryptonian fingerprints.
Current fingerprint scanners in iPhones wouldn't be fooled with that from what I understand. Their technology allowed for a full genetic scan of Zod in seconds. How did their security gate get fooled?
>Because he DIDN'T get legal permission and was going to have it either way.
They never established how much time passed, so I'm assuming the ship was already near the port and ready to disembark with the mercenary guards.
>Because the branding was a death sentence in prison.
Two guys were mentioned, one was a pedophile if I remember right. The guy was only beaten, which is completely natural for pedophiles in prison.
Which still doesn't answer why that was Superman's biggest concern. If anything he should be stopping violence in prisons.
>Because he knew who Superman was.
Doesn't answer the question. Last scene Clark was fucking off on the other side of the planet. How was he so sure that Superman would show up and catch her?
>originated from within the Kryptonian ship crash site.
So she safely assumed it was a Kryptonian monster?
>>
>>67621055
The scene where Batman tries to steal the Kryptonite is an even more egregious example of off-screen bullshit

Why the fuck would you film an extended chase scene, have Batman fail in his goal making the entire chase scene pointless, but Batman ends up getting what he wanted in a completely separate unseen event? What the fuck is the point of that?
>>
>>67620873
>>67621170
>To minimize the amount of people potentially able to find her secret.
And that secret is what? That she's immortal? Without referencing jack shit, why was she hiding and who is she? Don't give me that shit that we're supposed to infer from another god damn movie that explains that Batman's parents are dead in the very beginning.
>When he heard his conversation with Alfred using superhearing and putting it together on his own.
That doesn't answer the question. Corporate espionage is a thing. He knew he was after files and that was it.
>He was able to learn many things from the ship's library of many planets, including that.
So we have to infer he ship told him that, when it only mentioned that it was considered an abomination to mess with genetics and that the council had outlawed it? When did it say the mutant retard would want Superman dead?
>This movie took place nearly 2 years later
The monument was to the lives lost in the attack, and didn't honor the military members that kamikaze'd the alien ship and saved the planet.
>>
>>67621264
Because the extent of that would-be scene, is Batman busting through the front door of LexCorps and braking some glass.
>>
>>67621343
But why not have Batman get the Kryptonite during the exciting chase scene then?
>>
>>67621432
Because Superman was fucking his shit up.
>>
>>67621464
I mean from a story perspective. There's no need for that entire lengthy chase is Batman wasn't going to get the Kryptonite, but he DID need the kryptonite for the later scenes. It's a scene that could have had plot relevence but WB went out of their way to make sure it had zero.
>>
>>67620247
Lex Luthor was abused by his father and resolved that no one could save him from his rich, all owning, all powerful father. Not even God. But Lex, being a troubled youth, took this to mean that God simply did not care. Instead of thinking God did not exist, possibly because he did not want to assume there was truly no greater power than his abusive father or because he assumed his father needed a father himself (the figurative "father"), Lex therefore reasons that not only does God exist but he is not good. If he was good, he would protect Lex from his father.

So here are the main points.
> God is all powerful
> God is not good

In his mind, power cannot be good because God is not good. Therefore he refuses to believe Superman is good. " You know that oldest lie in America, Senator? That power can be innocent."

Lex, being a spoiled cunt and on the tail end of total abuse, obviously vies for nothing short of pure power himself. Which is why he not only wants to defeat Supes bc he's projected his father unto Supes, he also wants to BECOME his father and therefore would have to other throw Supes.

So there you go. Motivation, two fold.

Do you enjoy heavy symbolism and rhetoric which exemplifies these themes through dialogue and cinematography with multiple interpretations?

Do you like seeing Batman and Superman fuck shit up?

*tips fedora while stepping out of the shadows*

The pitiful peons at Marvel have underestimated the power of DC one time too many. The "Marvel Cinematic Universe". Huh. A shoddily shot, messily put together series of soulless and artless wastes of celluloid designed to appeal to the base intellects of moronic manchildren still dreaming of becoming powerful as they waste their lives away masturbating to images of Black Widow.

Only a fool and a weakling of mind could gain satisfaction from watching poorly animated CGI trade weightless and impactless punches while trading quips a severely mentally retarded Thai ladyboy would find beneath him/her.

DC understand cinéma. They understand kino. DC know how to build shade and light in a performance, how to engage the minds of true enlightened souls. DC have redefined not just superhero films, but the entire film industry itself.

Mentally challenged Marvel fanboys can only begin to grasp the tectonic shift in filmmaking that has been unleashed. Critics and reviewers fail to recognize a movie far ahead of its time once again, crying on their blogs about lack of snark and quipping - failing to recognize a literal masterpiece as it unfolds before them.

The public have responded. The entire filmmaking industry has been shaken to its core. DC have changed the game utterly - a new landscape is carved, a beauty is born, a God walks among men.

*teleports away*

Why did superman get blamed for a bunch of terrorists getting shot with lexcorp bullets when he's never used a gun, and wouldn't ever need to? He didn't even show up until they were already dead
>>
About the Africa thing...do people actually believe that Lex endgame was actually to blame Superman instead of just tarnish him and just let people with a previous agenda, like the Senator, to have more ammo to shit on him?
Like the botton line was that Superman showed up and a lot of people died, not that Superman killed the people.
Maybe i got it wrong, but i don't think so.
It was stupid of him to use his own bullets thou, but otherwise Lois would have nothing to do for the rest of the movie.

>Why was Lois in Africa?
She was interviewing a terrorist with Jimmy Olsen (who got fucking killed shortly into it).
>Why was Luthor's men in Africa?
Lex staged the whole meet-up and had his men infiltrate the group to create havoc.
>Why did Luthor set up Superman with weird bullets?
He didn't, Lois found the bullets which eventually led her to find Lex. Luthor did have his men cause mass panic and collateral damage to frame Superman, who he knew would be present to save Lois.
>How did Luthor know who Superman was?
Superman looks exactly like Clark Kent, who does not act any differently. Anyone could figure it out. Also, he's been surveilling all metahumans and probably has had Supes followed.
>How did Luthor know who Batman was?
Same deal, research and having a brain. I'd say he was less certain about this one, testing the waters by manipulating those cheques, but once they had desired effect with Bats he knew he had it.
>How did Luthor know that Kryptonian fingerprint readers were more primitive than human ones?
The ship was already heavily damaged, and Zod's cells were pretty well preserved. It's just a quick way to say 'he got access' like Spacey finding the Fortress in Superman Returns.

Biblical Symbolism
>>Why did the Flash's warning have no importance to the story?
WB exces wanted foreshadowing for future movies.
>>Why did Superman use the Kryptonite spear instead of giving it to WonderWoman?
Heat of battle, split second decision.
>>Why did getting hit with a nuke from below send Doomsday crashing down to the planet?
Doomsday was still alive, the nuke just made him stronger. He went back to Earth willfully, not because of the explosion.
>>Why did Luthor send back the dozens of checks with messages on them, when it had no influence on Bruce wanting to kill Superman?
Crazy legless suicide bomber sent them back. Lex just knew about them because he was keeping tabs on Bats.
>>Why did Bruce say "He brought the war to us" when Superman spent the last two years doing absolutely no conquering even though he was considered unstoppable?
Blinded by fear, anger, and Luthor's manipulations.

Politics.
>>Why didn't the government just ask for Superman's help exploring the scout ship?
Politics.
>>Why was it so easy for Batman to steal the Kryptonite?
>>Why would Lex send an armed escort with the Kryptonite when it was smuggled in secretly and wanted Batman to take it?
To both questions, Lex wanted Batman to have it, but didn't want Batman to know Lex wanted him to have it.
>>
>>67620354
>How did Luthor know that there would be a way to defeat Superman in there?
He didn't, but he already had a way to defeat Superman trying to clear customs. He first heads to the library to learn shit, then applies what he's learned in the Genesis chamber to create Doomsday.
>Why did they give Luthor full access to the ship unmonitored and Zod's body and never question when he disappears inside for hours on end?
He's the head of the biggest tech company on the planet and a genius. He helped rebuilt Metropolis and is the only one who might be able to mount a defense against Supes if he goes bad.
>Why did Luthor try to smuggle the Kryptonite in when he was trying to get legal permission to bring it in at the same time?
Luthor was already conducting a smuggling operation. He tried to get the Kryptonite legally at first, but once that fell through resorted to his smuggling operation.
>Why did Batman know what Kryptonite was when he was persuing the White Portuguese?
He probably only knew it was important and came from the area where the World Engine collapsed, he associated that with something that could fight Supes.

>Why did Superman care about someone beating up a human slave trader and a pedophile so much when he was getting flak for causing an international incident?
He didn't cause the international incident, he was framed. Superman even says he didn't kill anyone in Africa to Lois. Bats on the other hand is on the warpath.
>Why did Superman ignore the truck with rocket launchers and machine guns to chase after Batman?
Batman is the criminal vigilante, and Supes thought he would be in the wrong.
>How did Luthor know that Superman would show up to catch Lois?
He knows they fuck.
>How did Lois know to go get the spear?
She overheard them.
>Why was Wonder Woman trying to get the photo, when she would have never raised attention if she just never showed up.
Lex already had a file on her, she wanted that gone.
>When did Superman realize that Batman was Bruce Wayne?
Hearing him at the dinner talking to Alfred, also X-Ray vision.
>Why was Aquaman holding his breath underwater with his cheeks puffed up?
To look threatening.
>Why did Luthor want to kill Superman and Batman?
He has a problem with gods and father-figures, he distrusts Superman and wants him dead. Batman is a tool to make that happen.
>Why did Luthor make a giant mutant retard he had no means of controlling?
He wanted a Plan-B if Batman failed. He didn't realise he couldn't control it.
>How did Luthor know how to make a giant mutant retard?
He learned in the ship's library.
>Why didn't the robot recognize that Luthor wasn't Zod and was an intruder?
Fingerprint sensor, damaged ship.
>Why did they build a monument to Superman when the last scene in MoS has him threatening a general and saying the military can't do dick to stop him?
Probably Metropolis built it and not the military.
>>
>>67620912
>How did Diane know what Bruce hooked up to the server?
She's tech-savvy and followed him, she figured out what he was up to.
>How did she know he was setting it up so that her car was ready to leave on time?
See above, and valet doesn't take that long.
>Why was Perry so intent that Clark write about football rather than the breaking news on national television?
Clark's a Z-list writer, Perry's not confident in him and football was selling papers at the time.
>Why did Superman have that crazy vision on the mountain?
He was trying to imagine what his father would tell him, to help him.
>Why did the Flash's warning have no importance to the story?
Set-up for the amazing DC Universe to come.
>Why did Superman use the Kryptonite spear instead of giving it to WonderWoman?
He had an opening, he'd rather risk his life than another's.
>Why did getting hit with a nuke from below send Doomsday crashing down to the planet?
It should have disintegrated him, obviously he's hardy enough to survive and the shockwave sent him down again.
>Why did Luthor send back the dozens of checks with messages on them, when it had no influence on Bruce wanting to kill Superman?
He thought they were having an influence - and they eventually did when he saw them.
>>
>>67620912
>Why did Bruce say "He brought the war to us" when Superman spent the last two years doing absolutely no conquering even though he was considered unstoppable?
He did destroy a big chunk of Metropolis and almost got the world terraformed by his mere presence.
>Why was the scout ship completely barricaded but nobody cared about the terraforming ship, literally leaving it to be salvaged by the locals?
The World Engine was in ruins, nothing left but rocks (which turned out to be actually important).
>Why didn't the government just ask for Superman's help exploring the scout ship?
As the last movie indicated, they're not on speaking terms, really. Also, if they don't trust him, why would they give him access to a huge ship?
>Why was it so easy for Batman to steal the Kryptonite?
Deleted scenes.
>Why would Lex send an armed escort with the Kryptonite when it was smuggled in secretly and wanted Batman to take it?
He didn't want Batman to take it, but it ended up working to his advantage nonetheless.

Luthor had his own weird God complex, his hint of having had an abusive father was meant to lead you to the conclusion that he hates what could be all-powerful without him in control. A Superman outside of his control is something he won't let stand, so he will have him brought down and killed.

If you're not a comics fan then there are far clearer interpretations of his in the funny books and other forms of media.

You're not alone. It was a fucking mess the whole way through. It's so clear Snyder had no idea how he was going to put this script in film form.

This thread is low energy shitposting. Jesus Christ, how does /tv/ suck this bad at shitposting? It's not even funny anymore how bad you are at it.

The flash sequence wasn't a dream. It happened. Bruce woke up from his knightmare to the flash scene, and fainted. Evidence to prove it happened was that the papers and all were still scattered, which it wasn't like that before he dreamed. Please /tv/, for the sake of memes, if you are gonna shitpost, at least do it right.

Boredfag confirmed. While one could argue some headcanon or read between the lines, there are signs of some upper-level ideas here, but the script and cinematography was awful. Basically, just the themes, treatsie, and half of the acting was good.

Clearly not the point. It's referring to Bruce's blind obsession with attempting to slay a being beyond his comprehension at all cost.

Only when Bruce realizes that Superman is slave to the same experience as him, and sees humanity within the Clark, Bruce is finally returned to sanity.

Lex also outright sates how he feels impotent in the face of Superman's existence, a twist on the comic Lex who hates what Superman's existence means for the rest of humanity that can never match him. And as you mentioned, he projects that feeling of inadequacy on Superman as well, seeking to destroy him in a way he wanted to destroy his father for his sins.
>>
>>67625574
Now that we're at it, what about Alexander Magnus' Gordian Knot stuff?

I also remember the crippled dude cutting a rope with a knife. My take is that this guy was Luthor's blade to cut the knot of how to turn everyone against Superman and get access to the Kryptonite. Thoughts?
>>
>>67625847
Well his main goal was to turn Bruce against Clark with the explosion. Which is why he went out of his way to use his ex employee, and play on the "you let your family die" aspect. To further reinforce his paranoia about Superman as a threat, and he made it personal for Bruce. He also wanted Batman to steal the Kryptonite and to use it to kill Superman. He outright states this, that he was hoping Man will kill God. Either outcome would have worked for him when it comes to the fight, either he "bends" god to his will by forcing him to kill Batman, or humanity perseveres and kills god.

Doomsday Zod was plan B, if man won't do it, then the Devil will.

>>
>>67626114
That scene was great.
>Take a bucket of piss and call it Granny's Peach Tea. Take a weapon of assasination and call it deterrence, you won't fool me.

That piss is Lex mocking her, and she realizes that he actually took her words literally, and he plans to bomb the place as a "method of deterrence" to turn everyone against Superman. The scene is edited masterfully, more tense than anything Nolan could've imagined in a fever dream. There's this quick cut to Luthor's empty seat, the Senator's terrified face as she realizes what's unfolding, and finally Superman sensing something is wrong but not being able to react quick enough,

It's great because if you've been paying attention you realize there's a bomb at the same time as the Senator does. Hitchcock tension 101, bomb under the dining room table.

It was actually rather boring. Basically because of the editing, like everyone says. There are scenes that fail to invest you emotionally because they are so short...it's like Snyder was like "yeah kids, i know you don't care for that scene so we've just cut it short" but then even the fight scenes lose at least half of the edge they should have. The "Do you bleed" moment feels just...ok. And that's when you realise that the trailer had all the best scenes edited.
So yeah they've shown too much in the trailer. Doomsday didn't feel like it, as powerful as he was...i wish they would have named it something else completely.
Lex Luthor was horrible, as much as Eisenberg tried to play with it. But it almost felt like they wanted a new Joker type of character and they just decided right after the writing that finally maybe it should be Lex Luthor.
Wonder Woman wasn't horrible but she barely speaks.
The introduction of the other members of the Justice League was kinda pathetic. The "am i too soon?" Flash joke was rather disturbing and awkward. DC, don't try jokes just to make jokes. Stay dark, it seems to suit you best.

Dr Pepper tie in implies he dedicates time to figuring Superman out. With how easy everyone complains Clarks disguise is, I don't understand why a genius like Lex couldn't figure it out. I'm more perplexed by why he doesn't tell anyone else.

I felt the knightmares were silly. The justice league cameos were so forced. Batman having visions along with The Flash showing up really ruined the 1st half.

Wonder Woman had no reason to be in the film .

They wanted to accomplish many things with this film which takes away from the main point of the film which was Batman vs. Superman.

I thought Lex sucked and just really threw off the vibe overall. Superman still needs more exposition too.
