When Shout bought the franchise and announced the reboot, they went out of their way to basically offer Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy, and Bill Corbett a major peace offering in the form of a deal where they can now sell digital downloads of all of the Mike era episodes and get all of the profits.
Story goes, Mike was offered a chance to come back and write for the reboot but he declined due to the fact that he wanted to focus on Rifftrax. When he was working with Joel to finalize the deal for his group, he supposedly red pilled Joel on Felicia's hatedom and how he needed to keep her gagged, since it would be bad for business if she alienated the people Joel was begging money from.
