TNG, Episode 4x18

Geordie asks computer to scan a video and create a holo version.

As a kid I thought cool as fuck.

Now I just imagine turning music vids into porn vids.

Do you think one day will this be possible? That our computers can scan video footage and create 3d versions for our own fun?
>>
It would have to fill in a lot of gaps in forming an actual 3d space, so much so that it might be pointless and it would be easier just to create a whole new different holo thing from scratch

I would assume a typical 3 min music video would have enough for the computer to make a good copy of the star at least.

Holodecks are fucking stupid

Trek claims it's illusion of distance but you see them standing distances from each other (in a single frame) larger that the interior space of the holodeck.

If it can get a good view of at least 6 sides in full body it might, but those things are always blurry in the details because it just doesn't have enough visual fidelity to make out the real structure and depth of a 3d object. Even with "better" computers it would be a case of making shit up because there isn't the data for it, like turning the brightness up on a pitch black screen would just give a grey image because there's no data there

No, you're the stupid one. The holodeck sets up a fake image between the two people--one where they appear to be farther away from one another than they actually are. The projected floors act as conveyor belts, simulating the distance they're perceiving.

that was one obviously good scene in a fairly mediocre episode.

In fact I like the way it played off the other times Geordi used the holodeck to test engineering ideas and fuck that nasty Russian looking cunt.

I imagine that script was rewritten by Berman for some reason.

I said in the same frame retard. Meaning that how they shot some holodeck episodes contradicted the rules of how it worked

I thought that episode had great alien costumes

My point still stands though? You can have Picard in frame and Beverly seemingly thirty meters away, because between Picard and the real Beverly, there's a simulated image of Beverly being much farther away.

Which should be visible to any third party viewing the scene which is not recognised as present by the holodeck, eg the viewer. We should see how the tech is adapting to the user, not see it do the same for us the viewer. Ruins the immerison
