There's never once a moment where they say, in any of the films, "Only a trained Jedi can use the Jedi mind trick." All we do is see Kenobi use it in the first film, and then Luke uses it in the third film, and then it's used a couple times in the prequels.
TFA sets up that she's heard of the mind trick, and so when she finds out she can use the Force, she tries it (and fails the first couple times).

Driver has one hell of a presence. It must kill Lena Dunham that Driver has broken out, while her career is basically over.
Anyway, every film he is in, I've noticed he acts circles around the other actors in the scene. Great choice, but sadly, poor direction and scrip hampered him down. Definitely the best actor in the film.
Domnhall Gleeson and Oscar ISaac are fantastic actors though. Pretty awful here, especially Gleeson.

I have loved starwars since VHS when I was 7. I even liked the prequels. The force awakens was full of plot holes and things left unexplained for me to give two shits about the movie. Like when a goddam bowcaster sends a stormtrooper flying and hits Ren square on he doesn't go tumbling down. Or when Main character A & B left, closer to the exits and wow sith lord is out there cornering them its almost like he teleported there or took a shortcut with his wound. And leaving Main character B alive after taking a fucking lightsaber to the goddam spine? How about when the deathstar exploded we just assume they escape off screen. Atleast the trilogy had Darth Vader in a fucking tie advanced speeding off on screen. Then we have the very opening scene where they hijack a tie fighter, and crash it FROM ORBIT where, scientifically it should've burned up on entry due lol no controls senpai we BBQ'D I can't turn the heat shields on. Or when it fucking explodes after it sinks into sand that wasn't quick sand it was regular sand and the black dude is just like whoa that's weird guess I'd better fuck off of this sand that may or may not suddenly eat me. Then we have main character A not selling a droid for literal food because of some morality complex. Who is malnourished and starving. Too many things left open ended to be enjoyable. It felt like some fanfic given to the big screen.

All the characters felt like aliens besides Kylo Ren
He actually had motivation and character and felt like a good anti-thesis of Vader. I just would have preferred him to be bit more threatening in the end confrontation and cut the scene where the stormtroopers walk away Marvel style.
