it was good all the way to season 2, and sortve season 3. The whole storyline for the series got fucked up when one of the actors got sick and they had to speed up the storyline for some of the major characters. I won't spoil it but thats basically why it went down hill after season 2. Season 3 was okay after that, but it didn't hold up as well as 2. But yeah overall a lot of great moments and i believe it couldve held up to shows like sopranos, breaking bad, and mad men, if they had a better plan b for when one of the actors couldn't continue.
So like I said great show up to season 2, and if you want to continue I'd stop at 3. Because the series finale and the whole final season itself was atrocious and I couldn't believe how far downhill the writing went, especially for the finale

Season 3 is decent, Rosetti being kind of a typical gangster villain type is saved by Bobby Cannavale being GOAT.
Season 4 is great as well. Lot of great performances.
The biggest issue is that the show wasn't given enough time to deal with all of the plot points it set up. Sort of like Deadwood, but unlike Deadwood Boardwalk Attempted to cram a shitload of development into a shorter season. Ideally, we should have had six or seven seasons, but HBO can only avoid one period piece at a time and Tits N Dragons just has a greater draw. Season 5 still managed to be pretty satisfying for me.

And then they went and did a fucking 7 year time jump before the last season, skipping over basically everything cool that happened in IRL life. I was stoked as shit when the show started, because it seemed obvious it was leading to shit like the Valentine's Day massacre, Rothstein's death, and all the other cool gangland shit that happened in the late 20's.
But nope. Jumps right over all of it to do boring horseshit in Cuba. Didn't even finish the last season.

I mean it was never that big of a plot point before that, so it's not like I'm assuming all of season 3 he's going to be working for Churchill. It's just annoying that they used him as a deus ex machina there. All the tension that was built up throughout the episode, seeing Sam Neil hire these guys, watching Tommy work through his plan, spinning many plates, knowing these guys were out there, waiting to snatch him. And then they do and everyones celebrating their victory but they don't know where Tommy is, and you know he's being driven to his death. Just saying.
