It had somewhat of a story, plus it was Jurassic Park. A JP film hadn't been made in years so everyone wanted to see it, and the original was well received.

He's a pure visual effects over story and character, director like many other hacks. He does not belong in the movie industry, he should be doing commercials or video games.
