Made in 1999?
This movie feels so much older than that. The sound effects, the sound track, the way the scenes are shot, it all feels outdated to contemporary movies.
Event Horizon (1997) felt more modern than this. Prince of Darkness (1987) as well. Hell, even the original Alien (1979).
I don't think it's unfair to compare this to Hackers (1995) and that movie was ridiculous horseshit. Actually, I think Hackers did a better job at computer hacker mumbo jumbo with a breakbeat / industrial soundtrack and stupid outfits. At least it didn't take itself so seriously with the edgy counter culture quotables.
>bad guy acts as hard as he can while prancing around the ship, taunting comatose bodies
POWERFUL SCENE

Oh no, he killed... Stanky. And Ajax? And the big dude who said one line. I think his name was Chevy Suburban.
The stakes are so high right now.

the matrix is the ultimate entry-level pleb bait movie
literally everything in the movie is shamelessly stolen and it's filled to the brim with edgy elements that just make it feel dated
a masterpiece of packaging and little/nothing else
>>67333966
i just got to that scene
man and woman do cartwheels down hallway as Styrofoam pillars flake apart and army men stand still spraying and praying
>>67333169
>>67334025
You faggots are wrong, you have shit taste.
Your opinion privileges have been permanently revoked.
I think Mega64 have done better special effects for a gag.
>>67334025
matrix took all the great sci fi cyberpunk ideas from the late 80s and 90s and put them all in one picture
>>67334460
Wow, really? You mean to tell us that computers and software have improved in 15 years?
Extraordinary.
The shitty nu metal and rave music is really what ruin it. It would be a million times better with just an atmospheric soundtrack.
I think it is shot pretty well and the filters still look cool.
>>67334025
>shamelessly stolen
more like lovingly appropriated
>>67334553
He meant a Mega64 video from 2004. so sure 5 years later minus the millions of dollars spent to hire the best team that went to college to make could do.
>>67334553
so there was no artistic effort or technical expertise at play here
they were just doing the best they could with adobe presets. that's why a youtuber can do a better job 15 years later on a whim.
>>67334630
Let's see that video then.
>>67334659
Cool strawman.
>>67334437
don't even
it's world on a wire for retards with major elements of ghost in the shell, blade runner, strange days, akira, and about 40 other movies with a heavy use of dick, gibson, and a complete misunderstanding of simulacra and simulation all thrown into a blender with some trendy visuals and meme fight choreography
the movie has nothing original to say and is an embarrassment to the genre
Even though OP is retarded and this thread sucks, I actually think there's an interesting point here. Last time I watched The Matrix it really did seem a lot older, or really out-of-time than I remembered. I think it's because the first third of the movie is kind of noirish and relatively slow. It feels completely at odds with the sequels and a lot of movies it gets compared to now. Great fucking movie.
Also, Hackers is good. It's one of the cheesiest movies ever but it's got an amazing style, it's one of the most quotable movies ever, and it's actually a solid little thriller.
All all I give The Matrix a 9/10, Hackers a 7.5/10, and OP a 0/10 for being a giant fucking faggot.
>>67334793
Don't post in the threat if you're just going to insult OP, that's just not cool
>>67334739
the matrix started meme fight choreography, pleb.
>>67334739
Since when is being a pastiche with tons of influences such a crime? I don't understand, are you saying you didn't like it, or that it sucks?
Also, you forgot to namecheck The Invisibles you tryhard.
>>67334739
You know what an homage is? Because you just described it.
The matrix attempted and had fun at more shit in 5 minutes than most movies in their whole runtime.
>>67334739
Just because you namedrop a bunch of shit doesn't make the movie particularly derivative.
>>67334739
>implying ghost in the shell, blade runner, strange days, and akira aren't all pastiches of their own
What a pleb, also
>implying you understand Simulacra and Simulation
kek
>>67334953
Not to mention how influential Blade Runner's aesthetic was on Akira itself. OP is too mad. If he has problems with The Matrix that's perfectly reasonable but saying it's shitty because it has too many influences is silly.
OP I don't hate you, but come on.
hmm could it be that if you see the definite thing that made up everything else after you see the five other films that copied it it might seem like it copies the the movies that actually copied it
hmmmmmmm i don't knowmatrix wasn't even THAT good, it's ok and enjoyable
>>67334025
People shit on everything on this board. Like it or not the Matrix was one of the most influential movies of our time, that has been copied and emulated many times over.
>>67334739
>and about 40 other movies
Name 20.
>>67334855
>no bites
Was it too obvious, or has this place sunken so low that comments asking not to call OP a faggot are even remotely agreeable?
>>67333169
Alien kicks ass so of course it's superior, everything else in this post is strange and backward to me. If anything the Matrix looks better compared to modern movies because it has cool angles, well-placed special effects, and steady camerawork
>>67334739
>a complete misunderstanding of simulacra and simulation
lolwut, it has nothing to do with the book, it was just there for a 2 second sight gag
I would assume b8 but there are a lot of people that talk like this. The first is just a smarter-than-average stylish action movie, simple and fun premise with cool action. Only the sequels deserve scorn.
>>67334873
go watch fist of legend right now you colossal fucking retard
>>67334893
it's a crime because it was a shameless self-indulgence that broke the genre while contributing nothing of value to it. im not gonna sit here and try to list everything the movie stole from, if we went for that id probably end up dying of natural causes
>>67334911
fair, and it is a crowd pleaser and is pretty well put together, structurally. even with my hatred of it id be hard pressed to give it anything other than a 7/10. it just hurts to think about because the more you watch (and read) the more obvious its problems become, and the movie itself desperately tries to be deeper than it really is. it's a flicky movie pretending to be a film and it gets worse on every rewatch.
>>67334914
>this is actually a post
>>67334953
there's a difference between inspiration and theft. is there some grey area? sure. but this movie goes so far to one extreme that it seems like it's inspiration IS theft.

It's a flick, not a movie.
