There was too much focus on the others. The Thing should have been marketed more than the others, he was always the most popular one of the 4.

It was also probably the only thing in line with the original comics. The 4 hated their powers because it made them freaks, and Reed made them superheroes so people would like and accept them. Ben just happened to be the hardest sell on the whole "not a freak" thing.
We start with Reed at the science fair. He's working on setting up his teleporter with one or two kids but it's not going well. He's speaking entirely in code/science lingo and is being generally unintelligible. The kids quit just in time for Ben to come in, Reed thanks him for coming and Ben says something along the lines of he's been in this thing since they were 8, so he might as well see it finished. He and Reed have a rhythm and get the teleporter set up for the judges. We see Sue lurking in the background. Demonstration goes as the movie, Sue approaches without Franklin, introduces herself, explains she's from the Baxter project and wants Reed to join her. He agrees, she hands him some paperwork to fill out. Ben turns to leave but Sue gives him his own paperwork. She says its obvious Reed needs Ben to get stuff done, so he's coming too.
We cut to Sue having a meeting with some generically shady military guys. It goes much the same as Franklin's meeting with them in the movie, except with less focus on "saving the world" and more focus on American exploration. Parallels to the space race abound. The military questions Victor Von Doom's involvement, Sue claims he's necessary.
Cut to Doom's apartment. It's expensive. Victor is examining himself in the mirror, trying to look his best. Sue tries to pull him back into the Baxter project. It's established that he came to the US from his home country of Latveria as a refugee, trying to get money and military support to quell the constant wars in his homeland. Sue asks him about preventing more deaths like his parents' but it doesn't sway him. Finally she says fine, that they probably don't need him anyway since they've got Reed. Sue mentions that Reed is probably smarter than him - Victor slams his hand on the table, declaring that nobody's smarter than him. He agrees to come in and look at Reed's work. He calls it the "dream team." Sue says there's still one more to go.

Cut to Johnny in the race. Unlike in the movie he wins, but Sue is waiting for him at the finish line. Their family history is established - she was adopted, and Johnny always felt overshadowed despite his considerable talents. Sue says that she's only continuing the Baxter program to honor their dad's memory. She says that they're all they've got, and she wishes he would come home so that they could be a family again. Johnny agrees.
The team assembles. Johnny and Ben hit it off, Victor and Reed don't. Sue does her best to keep them all focused and has a few flirty moments with Reed. No jealousy from Victor here, he's too busy trying to prove himself the smartest one on the team. Finally the biological material test is ready. The military arrives to spectate, and make it clear that they want results. The test fails. The military says they've wasted enough time and money and are going to shut the whole thing down. Sue is miserable, and Reed takes the blame, saying that his math was wrong. He's confident he's identified the flaw, however, and that it would work the next time. He suggests sending themselves over, figuring that maybe a radical success will convince the military not to can the project. The others agree.
Reed and Victor get to work on the math while the others prepare. Victor uploads his work to the five pods, but Reed points out a flaw and corrects it. Victor argues back, saying there's no flaw in his work. Pressed for time, Reed leaves - Victor says he won't die because of Reed's stupidity and uploads his own calculations to his pod only. They initiate the test, but Victor's shielding fails and he remains stuck in this dimension while shrapnel hits his face. The others are transported between dimensions momentarily but a failure occurs, giving them all their powers. The body-horror aftermath sticks around, because it was the best scene in the whole movie.

The five of them wake up in a government containment facility. Reed, Sue, Ben and Johnny meet, Reed admits his own failure and promises to fix them. Afterwards, Victor confronts Reed. He has a scar on his face and accuses Reed of sabotaging his shielding calcs. Reed figures out that Victor was using his own shielding calcs and says that his flaw actually saved him. Victor flies into a rage, points at his face, and asks if he looks like he was saved. He escapes the facility in a big action sequence showcasing both his intelligence and his physical prowess, defeating the 4 when they attempt to stop him.
We have a voice over montage of the 4 learning to control their powers, which covers 6 months. Reed is still unsuccessfully trying to find a cure, while the military is trying to convince them to take on special ops missions. Ben and Johnny are for it, Reed and Sue against it. Ben is clearly bitter at Reed. Finally the military comes to them and asks for help with the situation in Latveria. The US backed royalists are being pushed back by a suddenly well armed and organized resistance. Deciding Victor must be involved, the 4 go in.
They arrive at the castle just in time to witness Doom, in full armor, crowning himself Latveria's new king. He explains that he must hide his disfigurement behind a mask, and that he's finally freed his country from both the corrupt monarchy and American imperialism. He declares that he'll lead Latveria into a new golden age. Ben and Johnny want to fight, but Reed insists that they go - the war is over, no point in any more fighting. Doom refuses to allow them to leave, and thus begins the final battle.
Go full horror with it. At least it would've been different from the average capeshit.

Doom defeated them before, and now he's got the armor. It's capable of lightning blasts and enhances his strength, making him more than a match for the disorganized 4. Similar to the movie, Reed pulls them together, reconciling with Ben. The 4 of them work together and defeat Doom, reducing the castle to rubble. They head back to America, where they take residence in the Baxter building to prepare for the future.
Post credits stinger shows Doom emerging from the rubble and saying something intimidating and kind of cheesy. Like "The reign of Doom has just begun" or something.

Make the first hour longer, more body horror, Keep doom as a friend, don't make him the bad guy in the first film, Wouldn't have interfered with production and would have just let Trank do what he wanted with the story.
