Exactly. It was a solid movie. But there was nothing about it (Apart from the 70mm meme/gimmick) that made it anything spectacular.

How? Some critics instantly dislike Tarantino, and others probably were put off by the gore, lack of twist/the breakdown of the tension on the second half. It's also a very self-indulgent film. Kill Bill 1 has 85%, 2 84%, 89% and Hateful 8 is just a weaker film overall.
