That was basically the problem with The Knick as well. Subtlety is a lost art most modern tv show writers. Much easier to hit you over the head with issues presented in simplistic black and white light.

I grew up thinking equality was important, like a typical SJW in college I fought for women and minority rights.
Now after a lot of reading I've gone back to pre 1900 beliefs that women shouldn't vote and Blacks shouldn't mix with Whites. Why push for the integration of inferior groups?
