cynicism gets old really quick. You should be realistic and have an understanding of the way things work but that doesn't mean you need to be a cynical douche
it depends on who you are and how much aptitude you really have, what you're trying to accomplish, how you define "good" (among other things), the specific project.. it's very situational. you can't answer this question unilaterally and even generalizations are hard and can be dangerous.you might be thinking in black and white on many levels and could be better served by somewhat abandoning that dichotomy

Yes, it gives the creator access to a more material of a critical quality. Satire, tragedy, physiological horror, character studies, documentaries. These are best handled by cynics. Any attempt by another will come off as naive or just pathetic.

Being cynical is never a good thing. Cynicism is an attempt to protect yourself from feelings of cognitive dissonance. Being cynical means you're never going to bother.
Being practical and realistic on the other hand, is a pretty solid thing to focus on in terms of creative production.
