Purely from a creative point of view, do you think being cynical is a good thing?

You need a balance.

Who took that picture? I like what they did with it.

Miike X Mike

What would the collaboration look like?

cynicism gets old really quick. You should be realistic and have an understanding of the way things work but that doesn't mean you need to be a cynical douche
>>
it depends on who you are and how much aptitude you really have, what you're trying to accomplish, how you define "good" (among other things), the specific project.. it's very situational. you can't answer this question unilaterally and even generalizations are hard and can be dangerous.

you might be thinking in black and white on many levels and could be better served by somewhat abandoning that dichotomy

just find whatever inspires you
>>
>>67107322
Agreed, it does get tiring fast and after a while, an overly cynical creator just comes across as a tryhard edgelord.
>>
>>67106710
Yes, it gives the creator access to a more material of a critical quality. Satire, tragedy, physiological horror, character studies, documentaries. These are best handled by cynics. Any attempt by another will come off as naive or just pathetic.

>physiological horror
So John Carpenter's The Thing?

I think it's a way of trying to sound smart without doing any of the research people normally need to do in order to sound smart.

It's fine if it isn't excessive.
>>
>>67106710
Well if you aren't, you get fanboyism. Cynicism is more objective.
>>
it's not a good nor a bad thing. It gives you a perspective, that if used correctly can accomplish a real or selfaware view of something that people who aren't in denial will appreciate

but it can also blow up in your face as being too edgy or nobody liking because they don't get it
>>
>>67106710
only for comedy

To be Dr. Cox, Dr. Kelso, Dr. Dorian. Dont really know who'd I choose..... Probably Kelso
>>
>>67106710
it's not like you choose to be a cynic
>>
>>67106710
If it works.

no
>>
>>67106710
Being cynical is never a good thing. Cynicism is an attempt to protect yourself from feelings of cognitive dissonance. Being cynical means you're never going to bother.

Being practical and realistic on the other hand, is a pretty solid thing to focus on in terms of creative production.

Or John Carpenter's In The Mouth of Madness
Or John Carpenter's The Fog
Or John Carpenter's Body Bags
Or John Carpenter's Ghosts of Mars
Or John Carpenter's The Ward
>>
Why do most people in this thread object to cynicism yet 4chan is the very cesspit of cynicism, hatred and negativity?
>>
>>67109818
What's the difference you're drawing here exactly? Being ''practical'' sounds like being a cynical douche topped with a psychopath.

Cynicism in art is fine as long as you're making money from it.

Too much cynicism makes you look like an annoying asshole, so it's a tough act to balance out. This is why the vast vast majority of online critics are shit, because they just go all out with cynicism, when in reality it needs to be a light seasoning thing at best.
>>
>>67109818
this has to be bait

no one can be in this much denial
