Not that guy but I felt the same way. I can't say I "didn't like it" since it was a documentary and not made for any real entertainment purposes but I don't get why it's seen as such an epic story. It's sad for sure but there are tons of stories like that all over the internet and tv. Just go watch an episode of Cold Case Files, it's almost exactly the same thing just narrated by Bill Curtis.
Not even just from documentaries, but like from those random top 10 lists people will make about spooky shit and serial killers.

Waco: Rules of Engagement was just infuriating. It's incredible watching the court proceedings afterward and all of the pro-ATF and pro-FBI arguments come from democrats, and some particularly vile democrats at that. They got away with killing those people because Clinton was in office.
