In the Cell Saga, they gradually drifted apart in terms of their ideals and world views. They probably would have ended up fighting if Cell didn't absorb them first.
In GT they actually do end up fighting, but GT's not even canon anymore.

It's just such a rarity. It's an adaptation that's also a parody of not just martial arts movies, but of it's own source material.
Character-wise and story-wise, it's not even that bad of an adaptation. The biggest mistake it makes is having Goku be a high school student. Nothing else that it does is really that bad.

I think making a sequel at all would be a bad idea, but if they were to make one, I think involving Vegeta would be a bad idea.
The only viable options I can think of would be:
>Go straight into a Frieza story, establishing Piccolo as an alien and have him fill Vegeta's role as Frieza's emissary who came to Earth.
