It clearly takes place in an alternate universe where gas is $7/gal and universal background checks on guns actually have a chance of passing a House vote and wouldn't get instantly BTFO.

i mean it is just checking so we don't sell firearm to nutcase, sure you can argue it won't work 100% but it still help
it is not even close to banning gun
unless there were some other secret things they were trying to sneak into the bill that im not aware of

What do you think S5 is gonna be about? :^)
>>
>>66990861
somethingsomething government saying who can and can't have guns

The NRA would spin it pretty hard as basically banning guns to anyone the government doesn't trust.
>>
I think the way the organ donor kid died was foreshadowing.

It's called "house of cards", so we know it will all come crashing down at some point, correct?

And when it does... my guess is that rather than admitting defeat or facing jail time, Frank will blow his brains out, just like the kid whose liver is now inside him did.
>>
>>66990861

Universal Background checks would require gun registration to be effective and enforceable. Anyone who says otherwise is trying to pull the wool over your eyes.

Not that criminals would care about following the law, they'd still obtain their guns illegally from the drug dealer on the street like they always do.

People would still kill themselves with legally purchased guns even if they had been diagnosed with depression from a doctor unless you want to completely suspend HIPAA.

Anyone advocating this has no idea what they're talking about and just wants a feel-good solution.

Also, shall not be infringed.
>>
>that scene where Frank "confesses" his murder to Cathy
That entire scene. The whole spooky aspect of it, the lighting, his tone.
It was perfect

>>66990966
Season 1 is the introduction/exposition,
Season 2 the rise,
Season 3-4 the reign,
Season 5 the fall.

im guessing s5 will focus on the story leaking, the war, and an impeachment/imprisonment
>>
>>66990861
It has to do with the fact that it would essentially require every firearm to be registered, which historically has always been the first step to disarmament. The logic being, you can't take all the guns away if you don't know where they all are. Plus it would essentially destroy private sales, which are as common with guns as they are with cars.

So, it's more the slippery slope argument than anything.

Honestly the whole mess is pretty retarded. Gun violence is nothing compared to car accidents and home accidents and so on. All the really nasty stuff has been pretty well regulated for the last twenty plus years. Only reason anyone would cry about it now is because of muh chiluuns.
>>
>>66991007

For a second I thought Frank was gonna stab Kathy with the letter opener. but then I realized how ridiculous that would be.

Frank's just one evil son of a bitch.
>>
>>66990994
>don't do anything to make guns harder to get because criminals will get them anyway

we're all going to die anyway so medicine is pointless.
>>
>>66991007
>im guessing s5 will focus on the story leaking, the war, and an impeachment/imprisonment

The journalists break the facts, but It's the writer Tom who can see them for who they truly are. Tom is fascinated by them. The Underwoods inspire Tom to write his best book ever titled "House of Cards". It becomes a best seller.
>>
S4 was fucking great. Honestly I think I liked it better than S1 because of how weird this season was on top of the quality writing and camera work.

>>
>>66991129

>Being this reductive

That's not what I meant you asshole and you know it.

My point isn't that we shouldn't have laws because criminals break them, it's that these laws don't stop criminals and only punish law-abiding citizens and give the government more control by proxy.

You're probably a Bernie Sanders supporter.
>>
>>66991053
>>66990994
good points, thanks for explaining it thoroughly instead of just calling me name like usual

but on the other hand, we clearly have a problem with it when compared to the rest of the first world countries in the world
and i don't think shipping niggers back to africa is a real solution, so i guess until then imma pray that i won't get unlucky then
>>
who /YO LINDEN/ here?
>>
>>66991338
>but on the other hand, we clearly have a problem with it when compared to the rest of the first world countries in the world

Not really. Violent crime isn't particularly higher in the US. Elsewhere they just make do with knives and bats and such for the same criminal shit.
>>
>>66991007
That was one of the best scenes in the series. My heart dropped when Francis 'admitted it', then back down. Spacey is a great actor, the score, the writing and the camera work were phenomenal in that scene.
>>
>>66990888
Nice trips also who gives a fuck thats 34-24 years from now. Most of us will be old fucks by then.
>>
>>66991189
Tom is a good writer but it bothers him that his best selling book "Scorpio" wasn't actually written by him. He needs to prove to himself that he can be a great writer, otherwise he feels like a fraud. The Underwoods and all the drama around them are his muse.
>>
>>66991412
>Not really

so all the statistic about the USA have the most death by guns per year compared to other first wold countries are just bullshit?
what about all those school and public shooting, are they just government hoax?

btw the whole conversation from the beginning is all about gun related, you can't just spin it and then change into violent crime of all kind

Post yfw Claire is aware of the audience, like Frank, and looks into your soul at the end of the last episode.
>>
>>66991504
>what about all those school and public shooting, are they just government hoax?

They're pretty rare given the US has over 300 million people. They just make the news because they're so sensational.
>>
>>66991254
the NRA has also shot down attempts to increase the effectiveness of gun control laws, though.
>>
>>66991504

Half reported deaths by guns are suicides, about 5k per year murders.
Them frequent mass shootings that claim uner 200 a year, 200 out of 300 million. Better chance of winning the lotto than getting shot in a mass shooting.

Go to bed Piers
>>
>>66991504
It's not bullshit. It's just that taking away the guns won't make the crime go away. Which is kind of the main platform for the people trying to do so. And it glosses over the fact that for the absolutely insane amount of firearms in the country, gun violence is relatively minimal.
>>
>>66991553
THAT WAS SO CRAZY
I WAS SO GIDDY AND NOW IM DEPRESSED BECAUSE I HAVE TO WAIT ANOTHER YEAR
>>
Even as a gun rights supporter the NRA is a bunch of fundamentalist extremist idiots who wouldn't support anything even remotely anti-gun even if it meant their children would be raped and murdered in front of them

As a special interest organization, they only survive by pushing more and more endlessly for expanded gun rights. They aren't able to just say "we're stopping here" because then their funding dries up and the organization dissolves. They have to saber rattle endlessly to drive fear into people that the gubmint is taken ur gunz even if gun rights have only kept expanding for the most part over the years
>>
Can we discuss the most badass character kill off in any show I've seen?
Meechum fucking tackles Frank while getting off two kill shots at the same time.

I agree. But only radicals are zealous enough to fight continuously and fervently for decades for a cause. So I like them as a counterweight to the other side. Otherwise it would only take one major event to railroad a bunch of stupid damaging shit through congress. Because we all know how fickle and emotional public opinion is.
>>
>>66991714
Wait, wasn't his father the guy they killed off to save Franku?
>>
>>66990369
>Gee we've hit peak oil and it's now a scarce resource. Our entire standard of living depends on us using the rest of it responsibly.

>>
So was it better than S3?
>>
>>66991759
yeah, but its unrelated. kid was probably suicidal because of his dads condition
>>
>>66991757
There's not really a counterweight though. The NRA is extraordinarily strong. They're strong enough to prevent new legislation from getting passed even when a classroom of little kids gets gunned down.

Now I'm not saying that's automatically a reason to change the law, but the pathos on that is huge. If the NRA can take on that... I can't really imagine what else would cause a change unless that sort of massacre started to happen on a monthly basis.
>>
>>66991759
no no dude, you got it wrong
2 separate families
The kid killed himself, the liver was supposed to go to the father you mentioned first, but they bump him off the list for Frank and then the father die.
>>
>>66991765
almost as good as S1
>>
>>66991786
Yeah thats what I thought.
He saw that he lost his father so what's the point, suicide etc.
Was surprised they didn't go into it farther unless they're gonna use it to further cuck Doug with the mom in S5.
>>66991765
Much better.
>>
>>66991759
>>66991786
No, the kid was not the son of the guy that died.

I am still totally confused as to why they included the kid's suicide, and then not expand on it at all. Other than Frank thanking the family.

He fucking shot himself through the head.
>>
>>66991714
stamper called him and informed him of the utter vacuousness of existence.
>>
>>66991457
You really think you'll grow old?
>>
>>66991843
Probably just to show the gravity of the situation. It might've not really sunk in for the audience if all that was said was "the organs came from a suicide". The scene was meant to be stark and surprising.

The kid and the guy who die because they bump Frank on top has no relation whatsoever.
You can clearly see his mother crying while meeting Frank, and then later you can see the wife of the dude who died because of no liver meeting Doug Stamper

>>
season 4 is a return to form in just upping the stakes, making you care about the characters, etc etc
>>
>>66991007
I hope not. The reign has been hardly anything interesting so far. The rise was much better. Having a fall with such a shitty reign compared to the rise doesn't feel like much of a fall.
>>
>>66991921
It's because you know you have more immediately coming after. Its like when I watched Season 1-5 of Dexter and didn't get the hate for S3. If I had to wait a whole year after that shir I'd be pretty pissed too.
>>
>>66991890
>>66991937
In the UK series, the PM wife asked to get her husband assassinated to keep his legacy intact and won't be outed as a lying murderer. Do you think Clair gonna do the same here and would stamper do it?
Hard to imagine he will pull the trigger on Frank, but then again it is to save his legacy and avoid taint his name, so who know.
>>
Which episode/time was the Frank/Cathy scene please? I'd like to see it again.
>>
>>66991967
the president is pretty weak domestically though, without a congress to facilitate his stuff he's pretty ineffectual, especially as a non-elected "placeholder" president who has spent all his political capital on his rise to power

but as Frank demonstrates, the president has a lot more freedom to do whatever he wants with foreign affairs
>>
>>66991967
Season 4 was underwood trying to be a good president and watching everything blow up in his face.

No. He wanted him to cook him some ribs, after Frank essentially ruined his business and indirectly landed his son back in prison. It was like he was a dancing negro, basically.

How was Frank responsible for any of that? IIRC Freddie's criminal scum son pulled a gun on reporters and photographers.

Most chefs would consider it an honor to be asked to cook for the president.
