This honestly. He had a great sales record within the company and had their biggest clients. In a deleted scene from the Golden Ticket episode he actually makes them realize how good they have it with him as a boss.
He genuinely cared for his employees.
He produced good results from his branch.
And he was genuinely good at pitching, as exemplified when they do that whole episode where he spends an entire day or two not just plugging the customer, but slowly building trust and confidence before closing the huge deal.
