Why aren't you watching the best show of 2016?
>>
I read the synopsis, sounds boring
>>
>>66898735
2001: A Space Odyssey is just wide shots of spaceships on paper.
>>
I am though
>>
What's it about? I was told to watch Mad Men (OMGWHATAGOODSHOW), and it was fucking boring as hell.
>>
but I am famalam
>>
i don't think Australia gets hulu, so they can't constantly flood the board with shit threads about southern jim crow laws being correct
>>
because James Franco can't act
>>
>>66899275
He can though.

episode 2 especially
>>
I'm watching The People vs. Oj Simpson, the best show of 2016.

I'm also enjoying 11.22.63, one of the better shows of 2016.
>>
>>66899275
fuck off nigger

based franco will beat your ass
>>
>jewmes cucko

No thanks.
>>
The last couple of episodes have been kind of boring. I don't like the addition of the sidekick and it seems like they blew their budget in the first couple of episodes. I usually can't stand Franco but he's at least pretty decent in this tho.
>>
>>66899594
They haven't been boring at all
>>
>>66899418
Fuck off francis
>>
great film
>>
>>66898158

right
>>
good song
>>
>>66898158
I bet you enjoy the films of Wes Anderson
>>
I just dont get the characters. Why is Jake still working in JFK's case? He decided to drop it at the end of the first episode, and now he is 'happy' with his blonde qt, he could be rich with his gambling thing... He's a simple teacher, he doesn't even owe anything to Al, and he literally killed a man with his bare hands, and never thought about that again...

It happens so many things that doesn't fit at all with the character...

That slaughterhouse scene was tense af
>>
>>66900333
>Why is Jake still working in JFK's case? He decided to drop it at the end of the first episode
the events of 2 made him reconsider, and when the kid got involved he didn't really have a choice

>He's a simple teacher, he doesn't even owe anything to Al
it's not about owing, he's hoping Al is right about changing it and during his time in the 60's he sees the influence JFK has across multiple classes of people and that motivates him further.

>and he literally killed a man with his bare hands, and never thought about that again
it obviously changed him somewhat, i'm glad they don't spend hours telling us how he feels about it.
>>
>>66900651

Of course he had choices, he spent iirc more than a year living with this dude to wait for Lee's arrival in a shitty town, I think is fair to think that anyone would have reconsider things during that amount of time, and especially when Jake never, ever, seems convinced about his 'mission'.

That time slip really annoyed me, because they decided to avoid a crucial transition in Jake and Bill's character, and their current relationship
>>
>>66900791
>and especially when Jake never, ever, seems convinced about his 'mission'.
You joking?
>>
>>66900858
Did you even see the first episode ending, senpai?
>>
>>66900958
We're on episode 4
>>
>>66900333
Because having JFK live would objectively make the world a better place? Any decent person would spend a fucking token amount of time like two years doing that. You have to be some kind of despicable, myopic piece of shit to let a man die because "abloo it's too much work".
>>
>>66900958
>>66900858
>>66900791
>>66900651

he got his mind changed when he stayed over at those people and the old man told him killing a man is not brave and you keep giving yourself good reasons why you did it

Well, the risk of cancer is pretty fucking scary

>james franco
Sorry but I can't watch anything if this shit is in, no matter how good it otherwise is.
>>
>>66901022
Right, I forgot any regular american citizen (as is Jake in 2016) would spend 3 years of his life trying to save JFK's life to make a better world, and face plenty of risks and dangers, such as the CIA and even the past itself launching cars to stop you.

Maybe is just my europoor sick mind that doesn't let me see things as clear as you do...
>>
>>66901213
nobody gives a shit
>>
>>66898158
I am.
it's pretty good
>>
>>66901225
American culture is extremely different from european culture, so it's not surprising that it's hard to understand.

Our entire country is loosely based off of the sentiment of american exceptionalism. Our ideals are unique, and the tenets that we've built our nation upon -- personal liberty, democracy, and the concept of "building ourselves up from nothing." It's why most people here hate socialism or communism, even if they're lower class - we see ourselves more as temporarily embarrassed millionaires than a disenfranchised proletariat.

The thought of doing something exceptional like this - no matter any conceived risks or challenges - would absolutely be something we'd jump at. Not everyone, mind you, but you're kidding yourself if you think that an able bodied, red blooded american WOULDN'T jump at that chance.

>>66898158
Because I had no idea my Waifu was in it.

After reading the spoilers of whats to come, this show while good so far will end a massive dissapointment. The flash or the 100 are top shows right now.

3

>>
>>66901478
We are not so different. If you choose 1000 americans or europeans or whatever their culture, to travel to 1960 like Jake does, I think the same amount of people would keep with their lives in 2016, others would take advantage and improve their lives in 1960, and a tiny group would risk their lives in 1960 for a common good.

And, I mean, I'm not saying that Jake's character is bad because ''that's not what I would do!'', it's just I can't see how Jake is sooo focused on saving JFK, I'm not seeing his motivation clearly... And I refuse to think that I can't see it because of my cultural european heritage...
>>
>>66901972
I'm European and his determination is clear
>>
>>66901972
Because he has to be one of the focused for the common good ones for their to be a story. None of it matters anyways. History can't be changed and it all goes to shit if you do
>>
>>66902014
and what was his 'epiphany'? Al convinced him that the world would be better because muh Vietnam? Jake owes Al after he dies? That old veteran convinced him with his speech? Jake just ''do the right thing'' because he is an every day hero?

There are plenty, but none of them seems convincing to me (as Jake haasn't showed it clearly yet)
>>
>>66902173
Why does there have to be an epiphany?
>>
>>66902333
That's why I put 'epiphany'.

But yes, every series needs an event where the character gets attached to the story. If the story is ''saving JFK'', tell me what is the main event that made Jake convinced on saving him.
>>
>>66902569
jesus christ you dumb faggot
>>
>>66901972
>and a tiny group would risk their lives in 1960 for a common good.

Then he's part of that tiny group, anon. The reluctant hero is a trope that's been around for millennium
>>
>>66902764
Sure, but they have to explain that he's part of that group, as any hero, he needs a strong motive to keep him in the story, especially when he knows he can go back safely to 2016 whenever he wants.
>>
>>66903174
He can't, though. If he goes back to 2016 he can't reenter 1960 without erasing his previous actions (i.e., saving his friend, etc.)

It's one shot or nothing.
>>
>>66903246
going back through your timeline is a staple of time travel shit.
>>
>>66898158
I read the book and it was a disappointment. Can you read?

No no no. Mad Men WAS boring. This show is just great. It sucks you in from the very start.
>>
It's trash normie shit. Get better taste
>>
>>66904048
this, watch an epic show like breaking bad
>>
>>66904045
But its 8 full episodes just for literally nothing to happen in the end.
>>
I never enjoyed anything with Franco, he's the one actor I actively avoid.
>>
>you'll never put your clothespin in her wormyhole

I read the book and it was mediocre.

Also, did they incorporate that dude murdering his family with a sledgehammer multiple times or what.
>>
>>66904234
Theyre just doing 1 run through in the show, no resets in between.
>>
I watch because Sarah Gadon makes my heart feel funny things.

Also, it's a good show.

What happens if he stays in 1963 until it reaches modern day, then meets his young self?
>>
>>66898158

Arguably even better than the book so far. Jake is at least more of a real character. The book did treat the era as pretty much the main character instead of Jake though, and that's not really something that can be translated to screen.

all the changes they've made are reasonable, and that's all I really need in an adaptation.

The show on its own is pretty dope too, and I'm happy its a miniseries. with the absolute shitshow that was Under The Dome its good to see a Stephen king adaptation that isn't trash.
>>
>>66905334
spoiler: he fucks teacher bitch and turns out he's his own father
>>
>>66898158
I put off watching it because James Franco ruins everything he is in

Then it turns out he's actually a good actor and at no point have I thought "oh man I've had too much Franco." I'm pleasantly surprised and happy to admit that I was wrong.

He couldn't write a decent ending if his life depended on it. The best adaptations of his works are the ones that deviate from the source.
>>
Is it any different from the book? Because the book kinda suck.
>>
>watching television
>actually enjoying plot and characterization that gets doled out by the teaspoon
why would anyone do this? TV makes sense if it's episodic, but epic television storylines are just wastes of time. either watch a film where it all wraps up in 3 hours max, or else read a good novel if you want genuinely involved stories and deep characterization
