/lit/ discusses the classics and has legitimate discussions and debates about their medium.

/tv/ just mocks new popular movies and talks about shitty new TV shows

Be like /lit/
>>
But anon /lit/ is terrible they just circlejerk about 5 meme books
>>
>>66819347
lost in translation is overrated
>>
I used to try to talk about Vampyr, The Phantom Carriage, and Eyes Without a Face. No one gave a fuck.

/lit/ was amazing for about a year before it got overtaken by freshman curricula
>>
>>66819640
Nobody comes here talk movies, just like nobody goes on /fit/ to talk about lifting. or on /v/ to talk about vidya. It's all about the shitposting.
>>
>>66819347
It's because /lit/ is the only board not overrun by /pol/
>>
>>66819347
>>66819843
/lit/ is fucking awful now, though. It was never good, but going on /lit/ now is just masochism.
>>
>>66819347
>hurr durr /tv/ only has meme threads!

START A BETTER THREAD YOURSELF.

Whenever someone makes a Malick or a Tarkovsky thread there's always some great discussion. There's pleb shitposters, sure, but the insightful people will come out if you give them a place to go. /fmg/ threads are also a great place for discussion of filmmaking itself.

tl;dr be the change you want to see
>>
>>66819863
It's easy to say that at this time of day. During American hours a Malick thread will die in 15 minutes.

Nope. I'm American and I can start them with ease.

it might be because I'm coming from /mu/, but it's a refreshingly not terrible board. The discussion isn't terrible for a culture board on the place that has the most pretentious users of culture boards. Good threads don't come along very often though.
>>
>>66819889

Apparently more people are realizing that the primary reason shit boards are bad is /pol/. Kind of sad it took this long since I connected those dots ages ago, but better late than never. You containment board shills are literally less than human.

>>>/pol/

>only argument is "u bad"
>implying I'm even from /pol/

/pol/ is an obvious scapegoat on /tv/, /mu/, /lit/, /x/, and pretty much every other board.

When someone disagrees with anything, rather than debate it, the immediate reaction is to pull out this boogeyman.

If anything, /mu/ sucks because its full of plebbitors and normies that have been seeping into /tv/ and the cartoon/animation boards. They spread like a fucking cancer and are obvious to spot

But despite this, every time someone is met with any type of opposition to their beliefs or opinions they simple cry about /pol/ till they feel they have relieved themselves of any responsibility to defend their viewpoints.

you are a loser

>Scapegoat

No, you're actually just too stupid or too new to spot the patterns in obvious neo-nazi sperg /pol/ shitposters. Calling it a scapegoat from this board is particularly hilarious because literally every single thread on the board has some inbred trailer park failure crying about Jews or women and reposting twitter screenshots.

/pol/ is the cancer that killed 4chan. The average poster on this site now is well below average intelligence. Go back to your containment board you fucking chimp.

>>
>>66820119
>/pol/ is the cancer that killed 4chan. The average poster on this site now is well below average intelligence

so you're pretty much proving my point

One containment board has ruined all other boards? They have dropped the entire sites average IQ despite no real rise in traffic?
>in fact a large drop after /pol/harbor and the creation of /news/ and /his/

Somehow the guys laughing at niggers and talking about Trump all day are worse than the people jerking off to cartoons, spending their entire life focused on video games, or dreaming about traps?

You are either
a) delusional
b) a bitter minority with hurt feelings
c) straight off the boat from leddit
>>

This
>>

yeah definitely no /pol/ overflow

>Somehow the guys laughing at niggers and talking about Trump all day are worse than the people jerking off to cartoons, spending their entire life focused on video games, or dreaming about traps?
no one gives a fuck if your containment board is better or worse than the other ones, just that you stay on it
ponyfags are the worst cancer imaginable, but they stay on their board so no one says "/mlp/ ruined 4chan"
futafags are revolting but they stay on /d/ and occasionally pop into other weeb porn boards so no one says "/d/ ruined 4chan"
weebs are annoying but for the most part discuss weeb shit on the anime boards

It's just /pol/ and /v/ who feel the need to treat every board as a place to discuss their opinions on niggers/SJW's/liberals/etc. and then get offended when they're told there's better boards for those discussions
>>
>>66820286

so, let me get this straight;

If someone is critical of any women, minorities, or any protected group they are automatically from /pol/?

why don't you link me to a thread like that in the catalog right now.

One that doesn't feature /tv/ memes like BLACKED or Tarentino cuck shit

Or maybe go into the achieves and pull up the last holocaust denial thread

if you are too fearful to admit J K Rowling is a gifted writer because it'll lose you 4chan street cred, you are more immature than the 6 year olds who get read it by their mothers.

Also Ulysses is overrated; even for people who 'get it', it's entirely style over substance. The only thing that sets it apart from Dubliners is that wow! One chapter descends into incomprehensible slang wow! 40 pages without punctuation wow! this guy takes a shit and that's obscene lol!

>>

Harry Potter lady writes nothing of substance. No one should waste time on her.

Dubliners is overrated and only the last story is worth anything.

You have not read Ulysses.

He kissed the plump mellow yellow smellow melons of her rump, on each plump melonous hemisphere, in their mellow yellow furrow, with obscure prolonged provocative melonsmellonous osculation.

The visible signs of postsatisfaction?

A silent contemplation: a tentative velation: a gradual abasement: a solicitous aversion: a proximate erection.
>>
>>66820385
>If someone is critical of any women, minorities, or any protected group they are automatically from /pol/?
no, but they should go to /pol/ to have that discussion. I don't care what your beliefs are, but when you start soapboxing on a board that's meant for discussing something else, you're derailing threads and dragging /tv/ further into the gutter

>why don't you link me to a thread like that in the catalog right now
the front page right now is 2 threads about how SJW's and women are ruining movies and a discussion on how Zootopia is redpilled as fuck for showing true race relations
>>
>>66820353
>It's just /pol/ and /v/ who feel the need to treat every board as a place to discuss their opinions on niggers/SJW's/liberals/etc

hold on there friend

Movies are reflective of modern cultural, in some cases an ideal, in others a critique.

To discuss the message of a movie in both a political and cultural sense and try to interpret its message is well within the realm of the discussion of film, which is what this board is for.

Just because you don't like someones opinion doesn't mean that you belong here more then they do

You are the cancer killing this site, people who want uniformity of opinion, just because you don't like what someone is saying
>>
>>66820142

Is this supposed to be some kind of argument? Or did that part offend you?
>>
>>66820528
Joyce’s style alternates between gibbering wordplay (“mellow yellow smellow”) and ponderous, woozy abstractions (“tentative velation”), the style conforming to Plato’s dichotomy between perceptual concretes and ineffable abstractions. Ulysses’ alleged meaning can be “intuited” only by a special circle of Joycean scholars.

Platonists view man as a metaphysical misfit, caught in a conflict between the spiritual realm and this debased world. Man’s earthly concerns, such as sex, drag him down to a smarmy, animalistic level, making him appear infantile and ridiculous.

The book is practically impossible to read (the reason for its snob appeal). Ulysses recalls the saying, “We muddy the waters to make them appear deep.”

no one discusses the message of the movie though, retard. They OP mentions are recent movie/show/event that's borderline /tv/ related and then the rest of the thread is talking about politics in general
Look at any John Oliver thread and there is 0 discussion of any of his guests or actual jokes, it's 100% liberals vs. conservatives shitflinging
>>
>>66820476
>the front page right now is 2 threads about how SJW's and women are ruining movies and a discussion on how Zootopia is redpilled as fuck for showing true race relations

ok...those are all completely valid analysis and critiques of films/casting

I don't really see whats wrong with any of those and you also failed to link said threads

Making a personally analysis is not "soap boxing" and does not really derail a thread unless someone like yourself takes a moral and intellectual high ground based on their presumed origins
>being /pol/ of course
>>
>>66820546
I found your example to be fun wordplay myself.

So did you half read it and then, offended by how difficult a time you were having, proceeded to find the best articles and essays to shit talk it for you?
>>
>>66820449
you sure are right about me not reason Ulysses. I tried my best and enjoy the playfulness of the use of language, but I really cannot find any form of meaning beyond the usual realism that Joyce presents. I did everything I could but I just couldn't read it. I skipped around and found sections I liked, but overall the book is just incomprehensible and legitiamtely made me feel insecure for even trying. Pretentious.
>>
>>66820633

great post
Are you sure its not /tv/ lowering the average IQ of the site?

>They OP mentions are recent movie/show/event that's borderline /tv/ related and then the rest of the thread is talking about politics in general

Link examples
Most that I see are a political/cultural assessment of whatever piece of media is in the OP

there are exceptions, but most are deleted about as fast as Pest threads

>Look at any John Oliver thread and there is 0 discussion of any of his guests or actual jokes, it's 100% liberals vs. conservatives shitflinging

that's probably because there are very few jokes in his program, and most episodes do not feature a guest.

And being that its a political comedy show, the politics he is discussing would obviously be the main focus in the thread
>>
>>66820672
Everything you said was actually really reasonable until the last word. You're a moron and should rethink your approach to things.
