There are more male action heroes and scientists in movies, because that's how it is in real life. Men earned their right to be fictional heroes through their action in real life, and because they have the biological advantage to fill these roles.
That's why women are so unbelievable in action movies and sci-fi. They come off as carciatures based on political correctness.
That being said, there's no problem with well written female characters, if they're not written with an agenda in mind. No one ever complained about characters like Sarah Connor or Ripley, because they're believable, flawed, human characters who aren't portrayed as angry feminists or supersoldiers.
