What did you think of Only Lovers Left Alive?
extremely comfy
>muh ennui
>muh pop culture references
a true return to form for jarmusch, I adored it
the roles were cast perfectly too
Some of the dialogue was so pretentiously cringe

>the roles were cast perfectly too
fassbender would be better, but loki nailed it too.

made me wanna go to tangiers tbqh
Want a relationship like that too.
Extremely "Yearning for" movie 4 me
I thought the ending was dumb but otherwise a neat movie to watch for how awesome the characters tell us they are
>>66789577
Fassbender's too masculine. Hiddleston is almost as androgynous as Tilda. It's part of their whole "ancient super-cultured libertines" thing, they're almost genderless
>>66789487
I think the characters were supposed to be really pretentious. They have literally nothing to do but read and listen to music and look at art and architecture, for hundreds and hundreds of years. They're the ultimate snobs
Extremely comfy. Excellent set design. Adam's apartment is really well put together.
>>66789717
you are right
I wish it had been less direct in terms of spelling out the 'we're really fucking old and cultured and jaded' thing.
Some lines, particularly Tilda Swintons, were just so painfully lacking in subtlety but overall I enjoyed the pacing and style, and soundtrack.
If I only had this film to go by I would have said Tilda Swinton was a sub par actress, overall I enjoyed her character, but those lines...
>>66789757
Yeah, but the kind of things they were discussing was just so bland. It's like Jarmusch never got beyond the most obvious namedrops.
>tfw no Ava gf to suck my cock and blood
>>66789053
BETTER THAN BARLEY
>>66789906
This, to make a film about extraordinarily cultured and intelligent beings you have to be one, Jarmusch is not.
Please feel free to piss in the garden.

pretentious hipster trash
>>66790036
Yes but what did you think of it?
>>66789053
An okay movie with a really good soundtrack.
>>66789053
pretty good, but to some degree this >>66789487 and this >>66789906
some parts of it felt like jim jarmusch jacking off to the thought of him being the last intellectual on earth
>>66789961
This is a problem in almost all of his films. He doesn't care enough to do the background work. I still can't watch Ghost Dog because Forest Whitaker's form is so fucking awful.
>>66790172
it's somewhat fun to watch actually, but you shouldn't expect more than some fat black weeaboo with a katana
>>66789053
One of the best Vampire films I've ever seen.
Terrible.
Fucking loved it man.
It only reminded how amazing Detroit would be today if the white flight hadn't happened

>>66789053
5/10. Nice try.
>>66790906
Did whitey took their houses with them?
>>66790948
Abandoned, left to squalor, turned into crack dens, and burned down by arsonists is my guess.
>>66791047
This wouldn't be happening if vampires are real.
>>66789584
this tbqh
I've voluntarily watched it nearly 3 times, I have my criticisms but its incredibly watchable.
I thought the sister plotline was pointless. 'hey i'm your younger more irresponsible sister here to drop by unannounced and fuck shit up in your undead life. oops killed your friends, byeeee'

Only Hipsters Left Awake
>>66789487
>>66790153
This. Plus I'm a big fan of Anne Rice's vamp lore, I'd finished reading the Chronicles about 6 months prior to watching the film so it all felt incongruous to me.
>>66791322
They're true goths, if anything.
It was almost as bad as Limits of Control. Masturbatory, empty, boring shell of a movie.
>>66791047
Some of the ruins only cost $1, the city is desperate to get rid of them.
>>66791377
Dude, did Chronicles eventually turned to shit? I really want to get in on that but every fucking book series I've read which had more than 3 books tend to be utter crap.
It has a GOAT soundtrack.
>>66789053
I enjoyed it
>>66789053
Extremely pretentious. Had to put it on a pause on some moments.
>>66791377
It's very solid up to Blood Canticle. After that she took a 10-year break before writing Prince Lestat. In that time she definitely changed her mind about some character's motivations; Lestat in particular breaks character imo.
>>66791553 meant for >>66791446
derp
>>66791553
Didn't she turn into a bible thumper or something?
Damn good. Soundtrack is great as well, it's actually Jarmusch's band I think. Listen to it on occasion
>>66791634
She was a Catholic I believe, lost her faith when her daughter died, went back to Christianity (Jesus novels) and now I think she's basically a antitheist.
Obviously I can't speak for her, but I think she considers herself a Christian but can't reconcile her beliefs with Christian opposition to gay marriage, abortion and birth control.
>>66791931
Tell her Tengrism is a thing.
>>66791983
What does that even mean. There is no Christ in Tengriism.
>>66793815
Tengriism, the religion of mongols and turks, basically the lore of köksal baba and his nation.
>>66794673
But why would you assume she would want to be a Tenri when she believes in Christ
I could see her writing a book about ancient Tengriism
