They tried to cram the ENTIRE GL BACKSTORY into just one movie. There was no need for the corp in this. Certainly didn't need all those CGI characters made for under 30 sec of screentime each.
Basically the whole 1st movie should have been entirely on earth with Hal getting a summons to Oa at the end. Then you have another movie to actually introduce the core and care about them.
