Remember when Hollywood used to make schlock like this without trying to make it be a franchise or be apart of some shitty "expanded" movie universe?
>>
I actually liked Van Helsing. It was just a fun action movie to watch.

People need to just accept that some movies are just made to be dumb fun.
>>
>>66722332
Same with Solomon Kane desu
>>
they still make stuff like Hansel and Gretel, Abraham Lincoln vs Vampires (?) and Cowboys vs Aliens. Aren't those your kinda thing?
>>
>>66722599
The first is just cash grab garbage going for the "emo/gothic" appeal. The second was indie wasn't it? And the last one is pretty decent if you can get past how hard it pushes the white guilt angle.

I can understand why some don't like it, but you must agree you never saw Kate Beckinsale's death coming at Van Helsing's hand, what a fucking gutpunch

I liked Season of the Witch. Then again, I'd watch paint dry if it starred Nic Cage.

There is so many wrong with this list I don't know where to start
>>
>>66722199
Van Helsing was intended to be a franchise, but it bombed box office wise. Still it's actually alright, from the director of The Mummy after all.
>>
>>66722199
Kek. That shit was supposed to be a franchise AND a TV show.
>>
>>66722332
I like this movie a lot. Have no idea were the hate comes from. Must everything be so damn serious all the time?
>>
>>66722881
Man I really hope we get a reference to Dracula Untold in the new mummy movie with Tom Cruise, I really enjoyed that movie. A bit too short, but Luke Evans is great in it.
>>
>>66723609
Well theyre all in the same universe so at least thats something.

Wasn't there a Frankenstein movie along the lines of this that had Daniel Radcliffe in it that came out late last year?
>>
>>66723676
Was that any good?

> tfw it wasn't
IT had banshees, vampire, zombies, warewolf, frankenstein, it literally had everything all that was left out was some SWAT and mp5's
>>
>>66723704
Fucked if I know. Didn't see it. I had to IMDB Daniel Radcliffe to remember the name of the movie (Victor Frankenstein).
>>
>>66722332

This movie was comfy as hell.

>A spin-off TV series was pitched to NBC. To have been called "Transylvania", it was to have featured a wild-west sheriff taken to Europe to battle monsters, with occasional guest appearances by Hugh Jackman as Gabriel Van Helsing. The series idea was stillborn, partly because makeup, effects, and location shooting in Romania would have been too expensive, and partly because the film's opening weekend box office was far below expectations (which also doomed a proposed sequel to the film).

hansel and gretel was surprisingly good did not expect that
>>

>Remember when

Jesus fucking Christ. You're talking about a movie from 2004, not fucking 1954. And it was a typical Hollywood cash grab that followed exactly the trends of the early-mid 2000s, so using it as an example of some better earlier time when Hollywood was better is especially stpid.

>>66723914
I thought it was OK but only because I like these types of movies.

If I hadn't been a fan of these types of period pieces I would have hated it.

Well given the fact OP was only between 5-7 years old when it came out, it must be ancient for him.
>>
>>66722199

Franchise opportunities have always been a thing in Hollywood. Whether they come to pass or not depends on how successful the projects are.

>Abraham Lincoln vs Vampires
Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter was a fantastic book. Should have been a miniseries instead of a movie, make it look just like a documentary.

Is Gods of Egypt one of 'these' movies? I thought it was pretty fun, along with interesting design.
>>
>>66724146
It was more like Clash of the Titans or 300 set in Egypt
These types of movies are ones set from the 1500's through 1700's Europe.
>>
>>66724146

I actually want to see this, but no one I know wants to watch anything unless it has capes.
>>
>>66723609
Dracula Untold was miles better than what I expected after taking a look at the premise. The most pleasant surprise I had in years.

Then go by yourself and consider new friends if all your friends like is capeshit.
