Millennial college dropout with mental problems discovers he isn't sick but instead has an affinity for real magic. He and his friend get pushed into an entrance exam for a magical college/academy. He gains entrance while she fails out. So far its been he and his new classmates learning magic while she struggles with the knowledge magic actually exists. He learns from the best while shes forced to learn from back alley witches and castoffs.
There's also an overarching plot about a magical land elsewhere and a threat coming from there.
Feels like Harry Potter grew up, went to college and started drinking.
