If you're gonna watch westerns, you have to go with the serials
>We chased lady luck, 'til we finally struck Bonanza.
>With a gun and a rope and a hat full of hope, planted a >family tree. We got hold of a pot of gold, Bonanza.
>With a horse and a saddle, and a range full of cattle, how rich can a fellow be?
Also, The Rifleman is pretty good.

Two of my personal favorites, esp. "Il grande silenzio".
Top three for me would be:
The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
Wild Bunch
Once Upon a Time in the West
For me, these three films form the absolute essence of cinematic perfection, and I have a feeling of pure awe whenever I watch them.
Once Upon a Time in the West. I saw that in 35mm at the New Beverly about a year ago for the third time in the past few years and I've been convinced since that it's not only the greatest Western, but the greatest ever. I don't like using words like 'greatest,' but I've never felt so strongly about a film ever.
