I read the book where he constructed it when I was younger, I don't remember what it was called but it was told from Anakin's point of view, with Obi-Wan as his master.
He builds it in a cave on Ilum in a trance, and doesn't remember building it at all. He just starts and then has a vision and then looks down and it's done.

That'd be a pretty strange thing to think...
