ITT: Patrician horror kino
The last half-hour of Hellraiser is some of the most intense shit I've ever felt while watching a horror film. The second one isn't bad either but that's mostly because of the nightmarish landscapes.

>>65086099
my nigga.
I consider this a horror film.
>>65086395
horror or not, it's definitely patrician

Love these.
>>65085688
Oldfag here, how does it compare to the original?
>>65086395
I'd agree. I don't think it's aged particularly well though. That opening shot is creepy as fuck though.
>>65086782
It's much more clean and in my opinion, more violent.
I love both.
>>65085524
Hellraiser 2 is more patrician
>>65086821
Cool, I'll watch it then. Thanks
>inb4 It's just a violent western
That's like saying Alien is just a violent sci-fi movie.
>>65086782
different anon, but I would say poorly. It doesn't have the grimy, assertive quality of the original. Found it boring. The violence is pretty gruesome if that's what you're looking for though.
>>65086846
I still have dreams influenced by this. Being in a non-existent space where time is irrelevant. Not really nightmares, just dark.
>>65085688
This was Netflix tier shit
>>65086966
Not the violence in itself, but if the atmosphere is good chances are I'll enjoy it.
>>65085524
I watched that for the first time when I was 21 and I couldn't sleep until like 4 in the morning because of how disturbing it was.
Normally horror has no effect on me but that shit is straight up fucked.
Good choices, chums. I also like Dawn of the Dead and the Exorcist.
>>65086888
Is this film really that good? I read a plot description and it sounds like it has everything I really like in a movie, I was just worried it was going to be really disappointing so I've put off watching it.
>>65087137
It's kinda slow, but it's good imo
>>65087035
Am I the only person who absolutely hated this?
>>65087172
Meatholes scenes aren't horror films anon.
>>65087137
Its ok. Its trying to be like 3 different movies at once. The slow build is good but the payoff is a little dissapointing save for a really great torture scene
>>65085524
>Keep watching for the cool costumes, sets and general aesthetic
>The whole time I wanna turn it off because all I feel is panic and fear
Shit was messed up when I was younger
>>65087217
>Viewers have found it difficult to properly classify it as drama, horror, or suspense, though elements of all three are present in the movie.
It's unnerving enough for me to think of it as horror.
>>65087155
This movie is pretty good, see it on sci-fi a long time ago. I figured it'd be another joke movie like "Mansquito" but I was pleasantly surprised
>>65087137
Kurt Russel and the guy from Lost are really good in it, it's an interesting watch and you'll never be bored but I suppose it's more of an action film than a horror one.
>>65087313
>action film
why are you lying?
Better than the original
>>65086004
Agreed. Its unfortunate that the series goes off the rails after Hellraiser 2.
The most kino horror of all time
>>65085524
>>65087172
Never want to see this movie again but it belongs in this thread.
>>65087344
Be honest, like 90% of the film is them wandering through the wilderness and occasionally shooting.
Action was the wrong word, it's more like a typical slow paced western with occasional fits of violence sprinkled in.
>>65087395
>he hasn't seen The Devils

This could have been goat.
>>65087395

>>65085627
My favorite.
>>65085524

>>65087287
I think he was making a joke about her looking like she had just finished filming a scene for Meatholes.com because she has cum puke and blood dripping out of her.
>>65087503
nice buzzwords
how is that movie boring lol
>>65087751
RIP Angus Scrimm. He was great.
>>65087751
Phantasm 2 is also amazing. Those movies always had amazing spooky atmosphere
Tfw Steven Spielberg made 2 of the greatest horror films of all time
>>65087769
Shots take way too fucking long. After he kills the owners the movie gets ultra boring
This movie is fantastic and has one of the most frightening scenes in film history in it. I think the only reason people don't rate it higher is because it's a sequel and came after the atrocious second film so they don't even give it a chance. The same thing goes for Halloween III because it doesn't have Michael in it, people hated it without even watching it as a standalone film, which is exactly what it's supposed to be.
some top tier movies here
I'll say: "The Descent"
>>65088098

A Page of Madness by Teinosuke Kinugasa
>>65086846
it's a shame they all got so shit after this one.
>>65087700

not quite horror, but it's awesome.
>>65088778
He never liked horror films to begin with and he could never get past the violence in the Hellraiser movies to see the subtext
It's a trick question.
>>65088328
can you get PTSD from a hallway?
>>65088845
what is the subtext in your opinion?
>>65088558
Fuck yes! I thought I was the only person who remembered that movie. I watched it when I was a kid on Showtime or Cinemax late at night and it stuck with me all the years after but I couldn't remember what it was called until I finally figured out what it was about a year ago. There was an HD rip of it on youtube, I don't know if it's still on there or not, but it's on Cinemageddon too. I suggest everyone watch it, it's probably the best Lovecraft adaptation.

lel I think so, because that image is fucking with me hard.
recently watched, The Strange Colour of your Body's Tears, what does /tv/ think of it?
It got recommended here not so long ago, but overall it was creppy visuals and nothing more.

>>65086690
For being so intentionally campy and retarded, this movie's got a great atmosphere.
>>65089230
watch it.
It has a creepy vibe, interesting ideas for camera work and great colours.
But overall I felt unsatisfied watching the movie.
>>65087267
fuck that movie gave me many a sleepless night when i was young
>>65089208
looks extremely unrealistic. pretty bad job
>>65088913
How sins of passion tear families apart and how evil forces are prevelant in suburban settings. I also love how the art style and special effects help create an atmosphere like the film is a nightmare or fever dream of pain and pleasure
>>65087603
>not vagina neck-kun
off yourself
>>65089177
The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is great imo, and I don't even really like horror. It's got a great vibe to it

>Joe Spinell died in his apartment located off of Greenpoint Avenue in Sunnyside, Queens, New York on January 13, 1989 at the age of 52. Sometime during that morning, he cut himself badly on his glass shower stall door after apparently slipping in his bathtub while showering and soon afterward fell asleep on his couch instead of calling for help, his hemophilia causing him to bleed to death. His body was found by his friend Sal Sirchia. Sirchia had phoned Spinell that morning and was told of the injury and his refusal of treatment. Sirchia became concerned when he tried calling Spinell from his workplace at around noon and there was no answer. In the late afternoon, Sirchia left work at the end of his shift and drove to Spinell's apartment. After no one answered the front door, Sirchia called the building superintendent, who entered Spinell's apartment, where they both found Spinell dead on his living room couch. Wearing only a bathrobe, Spinell bled to death over part of the couch from an apparent deep cut on the back of his head.

Did we watch the same series?
OK so it wasn't the greatest but it was enjoyable. I have a special place for this movie from watching it when I was young.

>>65089444
le captain obvious
I always wanted to ask, what do people see in hellraiser? to me it was excruciatingly boring
>>65089022
I don't think Hellbound is the better movie but I understand why some people like it more than the original. It does a really excellent job of world building, Leviathan is creepy and intriguing as hell at the same time. It manages to build on the mythology of the first film without ruining it.
It's too bad that Clive Barker only worked on the first 2 films, it would have been interesting to see what direction he took the series moving forward.
I don't know if it's patrician and it's certainly not "kino", but I fucking adore The Descent.
>>65089551

>>65088019
This was actually the first "Exorcist" film I ever saw. Watched it at a friend's house about a decade ago on Halloween because it was his dad's favorite horror movie.
GOAT jumpscare right there, seriously one of the best in any movie I've ever seen, and Brad Dourif is superb as always. Thank you Ben, I am forever in your debt for introducing me to this film.
Mimic
>>65090663
I'd suggest giving Shock Treatment a wide berth.
The nurse is a total qt though. Maybe it's worth it just for her.
>>65086158
Was better than I thought it would be at the start. My biggest beef with the film was that the "Haunted house" setup at the school gym was unbelievably good. It wasn't something that a shitty rural school put together with no budget. It was the art director getting excited and overdoing it.
>>65088328
They did a similar scene as kind of an homage in the first short of Tales of Halloween.
>>65090857
It's one of the few times in a film when a jumpscare is used well and extremely effectively. That tension the scene builds before coming to it's peak is just amazing. I really wish Blatty would have directed more films, because the two he directed are fantastic.
>>65091159
That's awesome, I'll have to check that out. I was going to download that when it came out because it looked pretty good in the preview but I must have forgot about it.
>>65087603

How can you not understand the story?
>guy opens magic fetish box
>cenobites come to take him away and fuck his shit up
>guy manages to escape from them, murders his brother and teams up with his gf to get his body back together
>the niece realizes their ruse and takes the box, accidentally summons the cenobites and strikes a deal to give her uncle back to them
