Guess who's back ?

Am I the only one here enough of and oldfag to remember this show ?

Anybody else excited about he re-opening of the X-files ?

I'm going to watch it, but I'm not expecting anything.

>Am I the only one here enough of and oldfag to remember this show ?
Dude what? What kind of question is that?
You do realize that (young) people find out about old things relatively frequently, right? Especially successful TV shows. Old sitcoms, not so much, but sci-fi is a safe bet.

Late twenties here - me and all my pals are watching it for the first time. It's great. Was a bit too young to enjoy it first time around - I just remember it as the show that was on after the Simpsons.

Also, very red-pilled show, could not be made today.
Scully was already a bit of a Mary-sue to begin with, but she still had vulnerabilities. If it was made today, she would be an untouchable robot, and Mulder would be a black side character who fucks her from time to time.

You know I'm right bros.

In the first season, i think its the episode with the ghost that protects the secretary, we see who moulder and scully would have been if the show was made today. They meet two other agents who mirror them, a black guy and an indian woman.

So glad they made the show before all the PC bullshit became powerful
>>
Does that mean the lone gunmen are also coming back?
>>
>>65006016
and will they lampshade the 9/11 episode that aired in 2000?
>>
>>65005983
>So glad they made the show before all the PC bullshit became powerful

Totally agreed. The show really is a relic of a better time - things are so bad now, the 90's sensibilities seem like they were held 4000 years ago.
>>
>>65005781

I must say, when I saw the last movie, it was a very good close to the series. It made you sad to watch it go but you kind or realized that life had to move on.

This is probably one of my favourite series of all time though. I loved watching Mulder and Scully as I grew up and there has never been anything else that quite came close to it.

I think it's gonna be great seeing the original team back in action. One of my favourite duos of all time. I'm sure they'll pull it off. They got the right stuff.
>>
i'm just hoping it's not utter shit, and chris carter is prone to such productions of late

I consider it my favorite series and I still rewatch episodes from the early seasons from time to time, but I couldn't watch anything past s7 and never finished it

I don't really watch modern shows. Has television really become this bad ?
>>

Ever noticed how moulder leads scully? He puts his hand on her back and leads her from location to location often. The jews would never allow such prominent gender assertion today.

I watched it when it first aired and I am currently making my way back through them - so far I am on 11 of season 2.

I stopped when it became majorly soap opera like but Mulder was still in it.

Why were season 6 onwards so bad?

Why was season 9 so bad?

Weird thing is, watching these I remember every episode vividly, including the filler ones like the vampire girl who kills herself.

I couldn't even tell you half the plot of breaking bad as a comparison.

I hope it's good but the X-Files was special because it really did reflect the 90s so very well.

People were really gullible 20 years ago, I still remember the telephone ads for Psychics like "Miss Cleo", our governments hiding the existence of aliens and all that wonderful whacky stuff. Televisions shows like A Current Affair had stories on Aliens.

Fucking terrorism and GWB pretty much brought Americans out of insane conspiracy theories and more logical ones.
>>
>>65009285
>>65009511
6 is okay, they try to wrap up some major storylines involving Mulder's sister and the Syndicate

7 is worth seeing as its Duchovny's final season, so if you like him try to watch it (there are some memorable episodes here)

8 is terrible because the Doggett and Scully tandem doesn't work well, Mulder shows up in a few episodes but its not the same

9 has Reyes and her partnership with Doggett isn't that good as Mulder and Scully, just bad
>>
>>65009578

I think it focuses more one the characters and their stories and doesn't necessarily have that good of a story on its own. But if enjoy the characters it's worth the watch.

Alternatively:

6 is pretty fucking good. Still riding the hype (and quality) of the first movie, but the mytharc starts getting lost.

7 is less good. Agreed it's worth seeing for Mulder's departure, but there's way too many shit comedy episodes (for transparency, I really like the earlier 'funny' episodes).

8 > 7. Maybe controversial, but Doggett is great. His relationship with Scully is actually good (if you can get your nostalgia off Mulder's dick for 2 minutes). Mytharc is okay. Some bad monster eps, but also some really good dark ones that are better than anything in S07.

9 is boring. I like Reyes, and in another place/time The Doggett and Reyes show could've worked but Scully is always hovering in the background and her storyline is tedious.

There really was something magical about the '90s, wasn't there? It's not just my nostalgia?

Everything was so goddamn mysterious, and we all believed the Truth was out there.

But now we're just all angry and cynical and believe the government to be less malicious, and more... incompetent.

Fuck the 21st century.

>tfw I will never know love as strong as an alien's love for baseball
I kind of wish Darren McGavin was healthy enough to do this one last episode. The write-off explanation for another Arthur Dales was a bit awkward.

Okay after watching every single episode starting on the first one thanks to a recomendation here on /tv/ I'm sitting at S08E08 and I don't think I'm gonna have time to watch the rest of it entirely before the next season/reboot comes out (I started on September 2013).

Which ones do I watch? What do I skip?

i watched it when mommy let me stay up past 9.00 pm. i'm 26 so i caught some tail end episodes. i never saw it enough to follow any plot, i just liked the alien detective show. there was a lot of sci fi on tv in the 90's, i remember seeing this show and "the outer limits" and thinking they were badass as fuck.

Yep.

Shows like Unsolved Mysteries and the X-files took over. It was not uncommon for major news networks to have ufo or mysterious creature type of segments. I think most humans during the 90s believed in psychic shit and whatnot.

The 90s was the last decade ever for that stuff. It's too easy not to believe in magic now that we've all got cameras and the internet.

Holy shit thank you so much I saw this episode in elementary school and I've been trying to find it to this day I'm 22 now thanks so much you just made my night

Part of the reason those earlier X-Files seasons work so well these days has a lot to do with that 90s aesthetic. Those old computers with Windows 95 and the grainy filming and the actual guts to put some of the stuff on TV is lost in today's world. I don't know, within the first five seconds of the new trailer I knew something was completely off. It was almost too... bright or something for an X-Files thing. I don't give a fuck Chris Carter: The X-Files is grainy, dark, and edgy. The new show isn't going to be any of those.

a woman(with a big black ...staff) and black man fighting against a white man with a burning cross lightsaber.
Its not like movies try to have deeper meanings and symbolism though right?

Watch them all faggot. Just plow through them and shitpost at the same time if you have to. I do highly recommend Sunshine Days in season 9.

35yo here.

The social effect that the first season had was only topped by Lost many, many years later,

Not expecting much of the new season, but i'll watch it nevertheless.

They're too old. I don't want to see them fuck anymore. That was the charm of the 90s show.

EVERYTHING DIES

>>65019630
This is how I feel. The show is never going to hit those notes of fear and paranoia and isolation in the face of the unknown like it did back then. Real life events have eclipsed some of the shows themes. The old show actually feels kind of naive now, and could probably only have taken place when it did.

Plus they were young and attractive back then.
>>
>>65019200
X-Cops is one of my favorites.

I'm working through Season 9 now. You can do it, if you have no life.

I'd say only go for the Mytharc episodes, but some of MOTW episodes were still pretty good. I just watched Lord of the Flies, really felt like classic X-Files for me.

There is one main arch about aliens government conspiracy and bunch of monster of the week 'fillers'. I'd say it's about half/half.
