All Quiet on the Western Front, the original one. It's a little tedious because it's long and 86 years old but if you've read the book it's worth checking out.

"Ill put three words in meme arrows, two of which are from the post I am replying to, and one that defeats the purpose of green arrows alltogether."
I dont really see your point.
>>
>>64933933
I think you mean subjective. I have watched them both many times. The Master looks much better, I think it is better as a film. The scene where Freddy takes off in the desert always gets me.

TWBB is more fun. I think that's why people like it.

Also, I mean people on here. I'm surprised the contrarian function hasn't fully kicked in on this yet, although I do see a lot of people saying shit like 'Boogie Nights' is PTA's best. Kind of like the Jackie Brown thing I guess.
>>
>>64934040
You are implying that people who attend film school automatically have patrician taste in films.

As for two of the words being from your post, the arrows are technically for quoting, so I don't know what you are complaining about.

What's the subject for the 3x3 here? I posted my sincerely favorite 9 films.

I suspect some posters here post their 3x3 with intentionally the most /esoteric obscure pure cinemateque/ that they don't even really like that much. I don't really see the point in that.

please gib me recommendations
>>
>>64934264
oh shit son, is that crippled masters in the top center? That's in my top 3 kung fu movies. It has some problems admittedly, but it does many things very very well.

The ending is my favorite part. When the crippled masters team up to defeat the villain and finally kill him, the villain's dead body is still falling through the air when the credits start rolling. The movie literally doesn't even wait for his body to fall to the ground before it ends. It wastes absolutely no fucking time. That's so badass you can't help but jump out of your chair. It gets me every time.

If the top center isn't actually crippled masters......well you should definitely watch crippled masters then.

i knew i recognized your chart, have you changed some of your stills?

thats too bad about the review but if you do ever find it remember to post it lol

do you rank hanake's other films as highly? his work is very under appreciated

yes i love akerman mainly just because among other directors like ozu could benefit from the technique of 'less is more'. also because i went through her filmography at quite a personal time so she's stuck with me ever since.

othello has always been one of my favourites from the 50's mainly because of the expressionistic feel to the film (shown again in the trial) but also because of how confident welles was with directing and making films while being shat on by producers.
it was also such an influential film, it shaped bergmans look for a lot of his films

i also think its the best shakespearean adaption on screen (others would prob be throne of blood and ran)

>have you changed some of your stills?
yeah i got Menace II Society back there again, replaced kobayashi's the inheritance and changed some of the stills to ones i liked more, but that were still recognizable
>do you rank hanake's other films as highly?
I don't think so, i liked most of them, i haven't seen the white ribbon yet. Benny's video and Funny Games are some of the ones i've liked the most, but for me none of them compare to what The Seventh Continent made me feel

I agree with you in the Othello part, it was nice reading that man, thanks
i need to watch the Fritz Lang one in your chart, it just looks amazing, i'm guessing you liked the two parts? i'll try to watch them this weekend
>>
>>64950084
i think haneke is a hit or miss but i would say the piano teacher and the white ribbon are up there for me so i would rec that asap, i think that and 7th cont. are his most uncomfortbale films

i would say i preferred the first part a lot more than the second but i tend to refer to the films as one bigger epic and watch in one, they are amazing

Tarr, Koreda, Larraín, Barnard, i don't know those are the ones that are still making films
what about you? i imagine Tarr and Korine are in there?
>>
>>64952384
well i watched over 700 last year and i consider that a good amount, i think it depends what you watch aswell bc a lot of friends have seen many film but they are from e.g(the hollywood new wave) and so they havent seen anything from expressionism era/free cinema movement

i think just reading through the different eras of cinema and watching films that interest you in certain eras will help
>>
>>64952397

>>
>>64951875
well, hard to explain. i guess it's a combination of the polish mentality (especially in respect to WWII trauma) and the creativity expressed despite (or due to?) censorship during the communist regime.

in a weird way the censorship kinda helped to develop a certain subtlety in some cases, even though some fims got banned (like Bugajski's Interrogation). i don't know my, polish heritage probably helps in order to connect on a more personal level. does that make any sense?

I love Kieślowski even though i don't understand the appeal of Veronique, i think Dekalog and the two "spin-off" films are his magna opera
