I don't know why I bother with this place.
Absolutely love it. You're right, it has become more relevant than ever. However I do believe it is very much a product of its time.
Considering it was made during post-recession time, it really stretches the idea of what bothers us as a population.
It reminds me a lot of 'American Beauty' with it's "I'm so bored with my adequate life with a house and a garage with two cars inside it".
In a way, we have reverted to that mindset as a society since we have been experiencing a so-far prosperous economy.
TL;DR: Good movie. Product of it's time. People will always find something to complain about (or create rhetorical scenarios that cause artificial social strife where there realistically is very little).

Only in terms of a network adopting a baby and building a fake world for them to grow up in. Otherwise real life reality show are way worse in terms of what bother people, but they're okay with it anyway. The show in the movie was meant to inspire and give hope to people. Real life reality shows doing nothing of the sort. Even shit like 19 Kids and Counting and Little People whatever show don't do that. It's just boring people doing boring things.

The Truman Show is a great example how a mainstream big release can also have an intellegent, yes even philosophical story. The movie can analysed in so many ways it's amazing. Just brilliant direction and an amazing script. It's sad that they don't make movies like this anymore.

It's a fantastic movie that predicted not only television but society as a whole from Reality Shows to the eventual YouTube.
