Ok, I've always wanted to ask this since people started complaining about it..
What exactly is wrong with Vader shouting "NOOO"? It's a lot more convincing then just staring blankly at sheev and then picking him up out of no-where to throw him over the ledge. Shouting NOO seems like what anyone would do they didn't want their son to be killed right in front of them?

Subtlety is better. Having your character literally say NO a couple times robs the scene of its original drama. The audience senses in that moment that Vader is conflicted and he suddenly physically turns on the emperor. It's more dramatic and shocking that way.

In the originals, the subtle music dying down, vader clearly torn, and he does all of it wordlessly as music begins to rise.

Vader's wordless display of emotion when Palpatine was electrocuting Luke on ROTJ was one of the best and subtlest moments in the trilogy. Somehow inner torment was displayed despite his face being an immobile plastic mask. It was a nice bit of non-verbal acting and direction that deserves credit.
