Anyone got some good martial art movie recommendations? I've seen everything from the main players e.g Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Donnie Yen, Tony Jaa, Bruce Lee etc. Not really in the mood for 60-80s tacky shit either, just want some high quality kung fu shit.
>>
>>64544226

The two Raid movies, indonesian I think? Not kung-fu though, but pretty fucking cool nonetheless. You won't find any better in the past 10 years.
>>
>>64544226
Ip Man (2008) is the best martial arts film of all time.

prove me wrong
>>
>>64544226
Shaw bros wuxia
It has a slightly tacky 60s aesthetic but the choreography is elite tier
>>
>>64544355
I saw them both recently, they are fucking awesome though and I'm looking for more like that. But yeah, I think I've exhausted everything similar.

>>64544377
Yeah it's pretty good mate.

>>64544378
I'm not really in the mood for the old kung fu stuff. The furtherest back I could go is probably like Jackie Chan drunken master or Once upon a Time stuff.
>>
>>64544402
Heroes of the east?
>>
>>64544226
Seen Ong-bak?
>>
>>64544481
Yeah, another one I really enjoyed.

>>64544419
I'll download it, but just know I'm trusting you a lot anon. Not really wanting the old kung fu shit.

Man of Tai Chi

It came out 3 years ago and it's about a student of Tai Chi who's working a dead-end delivery job and gets a job offer to do underground street fighting for a billionaire played by Keanu Reeves. Keanu Reeves actually directed the movie and it's fucking amazing. I'd say it's almost on the same level as Ip Man.

>>64544481
He said he had seen all of Tony Jaa's stuff. I'm sure he's seen Ong-Bak.
>>
>>64544377
It's not even the best Donnie Yen movie.
Flashpoint and SPL are superior.
>>
>>64544553
Ahh Man of Tai Chi is awesome, but yeah I have seen that as well. I'm actually really surprised that it didn't get much main stream appeal, maybe due to martial art movies not being in the spotlight at the moment? It was a great movie with some really nice martial art work and a pretty easy to follow but interesting story.

>>64544604
SPL was pretty good, but the ending was weak. The entire movie was really just a build up to the alley fight with the knife guy.

Flashpoint was a bit of a miss for me.

cam here to write this
also: Marko Zaror is up and coming, his films where mostly shit but they did improve action wise and I will watch his next movie "Redeemer" to see where he is going.

Kiltro : good story beginning with some street brawls, then too much cgi blood, trainingsmontage and complete derailing of the story

Mandrill: campy bond parody with martial arts, I like the ton, story is shit and too few good action scenes

MirageMan: Kinda like "Kick Ass" with Martial Arts and are more grounded story and this didn't fascinate me but it's a very good place to go from.

Ip Man 3
>>
im sorry but 80s hong kong kung fu movies are the best around. subbed ofc.
>>
Blood and bone is pretty cool as well, had Michael Jay White as lead, Kimbo makes a short appaerance in the beginning and Bob Sapp as villain's main fighter. Villain is Eamonn Walker, Kareem Said from Oz.

Some moves in the film appear a bit too choreographed/slow but MJW has killer physique. Bodybuilder level in the film. Check the opening scene:

Once upon a time in China is better imo.

Chok-Dee is good. If you look it up on imdb, the plot synopsis is completely wrong.

Maybe I should clarify what this is about: Dida Diafat, french-algerian 11 times muay thai kickboxing world champion between 1992 and 1998 plays himself in this autobiographically inspired film depicting his path from prison to championship.

Nice aesthetics desu senpai

Chocolate, from the creators of ong bak.

One autistic girl discovers the world using muay thai.

As dumb and awesome as it sound.

>>64547958
I found this to be lacking in the fighting scenes. Non on the hits look like they hurt. Her form also doesn't convey strength. Shit looks weak. DNF tb.h

You Are Umasou is an animated flik about a t-rex adopted by herbivores, when he realizes he should be hunting and killing animals he trains himself to compensate for all the years he wasn't doing that stuff and uses this sort of martial art to beat up other animals, the martial arts is not really the focus of the movie but it's there and it's cool to see it in a dinosaur movie
>>
>>64544534
Ong-bak is right up there with the greatest of all time

And I liked Ong-bak 2 even more. So enjoy. I'm not even that other anon who suggested it.
>>
Some newer shit

Into the Badlands is a show but its pretty good and feels like an old cheesy Kung Fu only modern.

John Wick is pretty good.

I disagree

I don't watch martial arts movies to see some pain, I could watch MMA if I wanted punches that hurt, why waste my time with a movie and plot?

ong bak

It really isn't the best. Best mainstream, sure. There are movies with better action choreography and tighter scenes. Even some Jackie Chan movies trump this. Check out Ong Bak and Raid movies.

>>64544226
A great Donnie Yen movie is Flashpoint, choreography is great and people get wrecked up something fierce.
