I was hoping to be cautiously optimistic but I guess this one gets dropped before I even watch one episode.
I know this was going to be based off of the second book but I was already but I should have known this was going all wrong when the promo art featured what looked likea wrecked antenna tower and the post apocalyptic reveal was one of the best parts of SoS and set it apart from being what was basically a LotR swipe.
It was all a pipe dream that MTV would pull a quality or even passable program out of its ass anyway.

10 minutes in, visually (I don't know the story) it looks like a weird mixture of cheap Lord of the rings knock-off, Twilight series for the dialogues and Gossip Girl with pointed ears for the characters. Seriously, I started laughing when I saw a NY preppy girl with full make up and sexy dress and pointed ears, they were even joking about boyfriends. It makes Game of Thrones looking like Divine Comedy.
Aren't the books supposed to be terrible? I can't imagine any author being worse than GRRM, but Brooks doesn't have a good reputation.

Looks like GoT has completely fucked any hioe if getting a faithful fantasy adaptation that isn't derivative and formulaic in the next 10 years or so.
The good news is fans of the more popular fantasy series out there (Wheel of Time, Malazan, Thomas Covenant, etc) have a real shot at seeing their favorite stories on screen.
