Very misunderstood work too. It's less about a whiny teenager's mini existential crisis and more about the aftermath of sexual abuse and the fear of adulthood that stems from that. It's a shame that subtext is so often overlooked (especially by the teenagers who are forced to read it) because it really does change the book.

Fuck this lame ass trend of disliking books/whatever on account of the fan base, or the attitudes of some fans. It's a good book, and saying "meme x" is just an acceptable way of saying "it's popular so I dislike it".
Catcher is a pretty good book, even being a bit overrated because it's entry level and the fact that Holden is kind of a bitch. I can enjoy a character without connecting with them, but I feel like we were all that immature at one point.
