I actually watched this last night getting all hyped for Anno's Godzilla. I hated it when I watched it in the theater years ago, because of the marketing and everyone talking about it, it was impossible to get over the fact it was a shaky cam movie, and that I was basically expecting an episode of LOST w/r/t the origin of the monster.
On its own, without any expectations, it's a great movie. The shaky cam is a clever plot contrivance and it makes perfect sense as to why they chose it. The house party as the way to introduce all the characters was spot-on and the way they did such a good job of it as to make the characters actually relatable makes you give a shit about their idiotic running around the city afterwards, plotholes be damned.
