Film the same actors over 12 years.
That could never work. Maybe something similar if a rich business magnate invested all of his money in producing a film that would never stop being made until the money ran out, and then they would release a 100+ hour film that just suddenly ends. Then all the trailers would say "X YEARS IN THE MAKING..." and have all cast and crew would point out in interviews that it took X many years to make. It would be hyped up as the greatest thing ever and nobody would watch the entire thing.

a film adaptation of the short story Pretty Little Waif, Woman-Girl Love in the 1940s
movie filming two virgins have sex with each other for the first time featuring unsimulated intercourse.
It would have to be a two-parter, but bare with me.
- PART I -
There is this family hidden away in the hills of North Ireland outside Newry. It's the middle of The Troubles. A boy is born learning nothing of life but of pain, suffering and death. He has no name. His experiences with this pain and confusion are also domestic, his mother is dying and his father is a radical "believer" in the supernatural, who believes the boy is special but is afraid of what he'll become, and what he'd become in his own life.
The only friend the boy has is the son of a rich British landowner. The two eventually run away from their problems to America and find themselves locked in combat in Lebanon. The boy's best friend dies in the Beirut bombings trying to save him, and takes up his name: William. He eventually marries a young Commissioned Officer and settles down with two sons in Virginia where he takes a job as a Military Specialist. He sees many things in his experience, but one truly haunts him for the rest of his life: a mysterious man watching him.
When 9/11 comes around, William gets up and commits to Central Intelligence, where he trots the globe torturing Muslim terrorists for intelligence and continues down the path of his dark side. His "dark side" is only a half-face, as things at home are always looking up. He continues to learn about the mysterious man watching him and comes to learn that he hails from nowhere like himself and has a very similar job in a contrasted agency as himself, a terrorist organization.
Duty calls on William in one of the worst years in U.S. government history: 2013. In the aftermath of the Benghazi attacks and the Petraeus scandal, the calm before the storm starts with William's extraction to a third world country and back into the Middle East, where he meets an old enemy whom he doesn't even recognize, and when he learns that the mysterious man is lurking among them, he bathes in his glory at trapping him and leads to his demise.

A boy falls in love with a girl.
Unable to confess, he is gifted by a deus ex machina with the girl's phone number. Never minding the strange area code, he immediately calls her, and is overjoyed to find out that she has a crush on him as well.
But, the next day, when he recounts the previous day's confessions to the girl, she only looks at him with a perplexed expression. After some investigation, he finds out that the girl he called is not the same girl he fell in love with. In fact, she doesn't exist in this universe at all. She is the girl's alternate universe counterpart, who has fallen in love with the MC's own AU self, who too is blissfully unaware of her crush.
Hijinks ensue as the two strike up a deal to give each other their darkest, most private secrets in order to equip the other with the weapons they need to conquer the heart of their other selves. While the two chase their respective loved ones, DRAMA ensues as they begin to fall in love with each other instead and question the NATURE of LOVE.

- PART II -
William's death comes as a surprise and shock to all his friends and family. He never witnesses the birth of his daughter.
Fate is not done with our hero yet and William survives the sudden terrorist attack, vowing to catch his mysterious follower, gain his revenge, and make it home to his family and friends. However, William finds himself caught by the terrorist group and, to his horror, finds a familiar face among them: a former friend. Taken aback by his decisions, he questions him. His friend assures him that it was all part of a plan and that he had no other choice. His friend is hopeless against stopping the terrorists from torturing William. Things look grim for our hero until the familiar enemy comes to him, has a change of heart, and was only ever angry because he didn't recognize him. He lets him go, and has a heart to heart with William's own friend.
William now keeps walking in search of the truth, revenge still on his mind. He treks the desert for 1/2 year before finding the US Embassy and narrowly escapes death once more. Another 1/2 year passes as he makes his way to a military base where he finally finds a way home. On the walk through the desert, William realizes who the mysterious man was: a dark reflection of himself and what he'll continue to evolve into if he continued along the dark path. He now searches for the truth with new-found faith and seeks to make amends with his enemies.
William returns home to find a country seemingly broken by terrorism, and fights his way to the mysterious follower. The two reconcile and William refuses to kill him when given the chance. He finds his family missing and tracks them down to where he finds that he was not supposed to survive nor was the terrorist plot supposed to be overthrown. He is given a choice to be placed under arrest and save his family or to tell the truth to the public and risk it all. He chooses to say nothing.
The public must now learn the truth on their own.
