Terrence Malick has, or is on the same level at the very least.

and that genre is an illusion

The key to his work was that he was autistic but not fully autistic. He could talk and work with people but he had autistic traits such as overworking on the details, refilming the same scene for 70 times and things like these that lead a movie to perfection.
>>
>>64463158
"Authenticity" is the key to all of his work. And the time, he had prime period, allowed this artist to perfect his vision.
>>
>>64464400
He wasn't autistic. He wanted things done his way, as perfect as possible.
>>
>>64465530
He was a complete shut in who barely left his house. Watched TV/Films all day every day, only breaking to read. And was super obsessive about incredibly small details.

Yes he was autistic.

WRONG

Who did !?
>>

Nope, he happened to be way too famous. At the same time he was very protective of his family and personal life. It's called dignity.
>>
>>64463158
Kubrick influened bunch of retards that think if you have pretty, non-ugly images you have a good cinematography and I hate him for that.

Kubrick also did only one good movie and that's 2001.

Spartacus doesn't count because he didn't have full control over the film.

FMJ is the worst of his late movies (still godtier tho)

>“2001: A Space Odyssey is phony on many points, even for specialists. For a true work of art, the fake must be eliminated.”

>“Tarkovsky supposedly made Solaris in an attempt to one-up Kubrick after he had seen 2001 (which he referred to as cold and sterile),”

>The Russian auteur indicts what he sees as 2001‘s lack of emotional truth due to its excessive technological invention, effectively declaring that, in his own foray into the realm of science-fiction, “everything would be as it should. That means to create psychologically, not an exotic but a real, everyday environment that would be conveyed to the viewer through the perception of the film’s characters. That’s why a detailed ‘examination’ of the technological processes of the future transforms the emotional foundation of a film, as a work of art, into a lifeless schema with only pretensions to truth.”

Movies reflect the director's personality. Tarkovsky and Kubrick were probably very different. The thing is cold, distant, sterile or whatever you can tell a Kubrick's film right away. His movies might look commercial, but they are still very personal in the sense they represent not his personal life or experiece, but his views and interests.

Compare any of Kubricks movies to Solaris which was the movie he was talking about in context and in comparison to 2001 and tell me there is more soulless acting, cinematography and special effects in 2001 over Solaris I fucking dare you. Even those characters in Solaris were anymore dead eyed they'd be furniture in Clockwork.
