I'm only a few episodes into Enterprise, and I'm wondering why Archer, Trip (?) and T'Pol always eat at the captain's table, while the rest of the crew eat at a mess hall. Picard and Janeway sometimes ate with Crusher and Chuckles, but it wasn't portrayed as a constant thing. And in a smaller ship like Archer's, seems downright elitist. They just invited Travis the naive black kid to eat with them in the episode I just saw, and it seemed really strange. Like he gets this one pass then gets deinvited back to the mess hall. T'Pol must love it, though, she's kinda racist so probably also classist.

Enterprise takes place much closer to our present than TNG or Voyager, so it makes sense that the people in positions of power tend to fraternize less with the lower ranking officers as is our current culture (as least as I understand it). Also Archer is the guy who brought his fucking dog along on a multi year space voyage. I really want to know how he got clearance for that (or maybe he didn't, and smuggled Porthos in?). Officers on a federation vessel-- even a pure warship like the Defiant-- would not be carrying more than tiny hand-phasers for emergencies. A lot of the time they are just used to do things like get through walls/doors.

Fact: TNG has the best models of any show. The six foot model of the Ent-D is the most aesthetic craft in all Trek. Nothing else even comes close. The all digital Voyager isn't even in the same leaguedoesn't help that the intrepid class looks like hot garbage anywayand the DS9 model has none of the detail or majesty of the Ent-D model. The only ship that even comes close is the Excelsior.
