Phantom Menace is better than both of these.
That's not to say that either of those films are bad, but Phantom Menace is a nice, cozy space adventure. It's easy to curl up with and just watch. Revenge is a really dark flick that provides you with the story you want, but just isn't as fun to watch. The Force Awakens, meanwhile, is a copy of A New Hope. It's well made, but ultimately it's too familiar. It's something we've already had before, and it leaves you disappointed.

The difference is the new trilogy is still focusing on the process of someone turning "evil" and receiving training. Vader joined the dark side a long time ago. And just was we didn't know about all the prequel tragedy that happened to him, we didn't know he had great friends, a great teacher, a peaceful life and fucking parents. We know Ren had all this, though. It makes no sense at all he joins the dark side. It makes less sense he adores Vader.

Revenge of the Sith was actually pretty decent. It had a lot of nice action scenes and introduced some original things to Star Wars. Some of the scenes towards the end of the movie weren't bad, although a few were a bit over the top. If it wasn't for the forced love scene between Anakin and Natalie Portman (as well as her shit acting), it could have been a lot better.

They put him before the council and all the council members could see the fear he had for the life of his mother and leaving her behind. He was a scared and extremely powerful boy. With the second movie, we see that fear turn to anger when his mother dies. In the third movie, he has premonitions that the same thing will happen to Padme and since he blames himself for the death of his mother, he promises himself he will not let that happen. So he turns believing it would give the power. But all this was set up by the foundation of the first film. With TFA, we get a crybaby that has loving parents that were leaders of the rebellion, a wise jedi uncle, and the chosen one in the grandfather that turned his back on the dark side. He literally has no motives for being bad and is shit compared to Anakin.

To me, the Star Wars movies have always been decent movies, a good bit of fun, and not much more. I watched them all once, and I watched the original trilogy with some of my friends who are big fans a second time over the last few weeks before the new one came out.
Anyway, my point is this: The movies are fun, but not particularly excellent. The posters on the other hand, Star Wars posters are always absolutely excellent.

How didn't Obi-Wan or Luke's uncle and aunt didn't recognize R2-D2 and C-3PO in Episode IV?
Obi-Wan and R2-D2 had several adventures together during the prequels.
C-3PO lived with Luke's uncle and aunt since they moved to Anakin's mum's house.
How weren't they recognized? The droids had their memories erased in Episode III, but the humans didn't.

RotS killed off Dooku like he was an extra and then introduced another baddie without background story or intrinsic character motivation.
TFA threw us into the middle of the story (especially with the Han-Leia-Ben relationships) and made a half-arsed attempt to reestablish the Empire as an overpowered threat and the Rebels as the underdogs.

the fact that anyone can defend any of the prequels that isn't fight choreography, space fights, or music just baffles me
everything else about those movies just physically hurts, me and a few friends watched through all the movies before we saw TFA, and we were laughing throughout the entire prequel trilogy, everything related to anakin and padme was so cringeworthy and hard to sit through we were visibly squirming.
Defending these movies is like defending eating donuts sprinkled with grains of pure shit, it's got it's moments but all the good stuff is ruined by shitty dialogue, plot holes, poor directing and poor writing.

C-3PO was built by Anakin as a kid, to help his mother. His mother lived with the droid since Anakin went away with Qui-Gon (episode I) until she died (episode II), and Anakin came back and took it with him. Therefore, they lived together for years.
He was a special droid, different from other protocol droids.
R2-D2 was a very special droid. He was distinguished by Queen Amidala as skilled and after that he accompanied Anakin and Obi-Wan in their missions since the beginning, as seen in episodes I, II and III.
It's impossible they didn't remember.

7 was a better movie, but i liked 3 better because I saw it when I was a kid. So it's got a lot of nostalgia attached to it, while Episode 7 is just another "Disney or Abrams does Sci-Fi" movie which felt the same as Abrams' Trek movies or Guardians of the Galaxy.
