Lucas entire policy has always been "What will sell the most toys?"
This is all the man cares about. He's never written stories to be good, he's always written them so that he can sell merch off of them. The reason Jar Jar got dropped from his role as the big bad is because Lucas thought he wouldn't sell toys after the first movie.
The first trilogy was good IN SPITE of Lucas due to the hard work of everyone else involved with those movies.

Star Wars has always had weird dialogue, no one ever complains about it in the original trilogy because they grew up with it or got used to it, I dunno, I'm not sure, but there's something innately Star Wars about slightly wooden acting. Whether it's supposed to be a nod to 'space opera' in a more literal sense, or Lucas is trying to be Brechtian or whatever the fuck, I couldn't tell you, but it's part and parcel of the movies we all love so much
Anyways Episode III is basically Faust which is a more interesting idea than anyone else would have gone, sorry you didn't get your nerdgasm (don't get me wrong, I was initially disappointed as well, but I'm not a disappointed teenager anymore)

Phantom Menace was a horribly executed catastrophe beyond apology and Attack of the Clones is a mediocre movie at best, in reality it's almost as bad as the Phantom Menace because he has to do so much to set up Episode III in it because Phantom Menace does absolutely nothing worthwhile for the story or the characters in its running time
