People will overrate it like Empire and pretend it's better because of how dark it is, but it'll be markedly worse than TFA. Rian Johnson is incapable of making a film that's in any way engaging or visually interesting. He tends to get mediocre performances out of good actors, as opposed to JJ who somehow gets good performances out of fairly bland nobodies. Disney Star Wars has already peaked; they'll drive the franchise into the ground after this.

It felt like an 80s throwback with Spielbergean editing and classic lighting. Everyone else is doing 80s nostalgia shit (particularly in music), but it was competent enough to keep my interest. I liked how the visual language changed every time Kylo Ren was on screen, and how they used more modern lenses when they showed the First Order in their base. You can tell that lots of thought was put into the mise-en-scene.
