Because he's the best pilot in the Resistance while Rey is a scavenger who:
- takes out the guy that killed fuck knows how many padawans
- learns how to do a Jedi Mind Trick out of thin air
- can fly the previously docked Millenium Falcon better than the man that had been flying for fuck knows how long previously
And so on. the only thing that has people triggered is the word "Mary Sue" becuase it's a pejorative critical term aimed almost exclusively at female characters in fiction otherwise dominated by males and went viral because a dude used it on Twitter exasperatedly. If there were more of a critical consensus that the characters could be stronger and the criticism had taken a different, less gendered form, we'd be having a more sensible discussion about this.
