Better question: can you take a photograph of a mirror in its natural state? Is this what they look like when you're not there?
>>
>>64404227
yeah good question but how do i make the mirror work?

What happens if you take a photograph of a mirror then move faster than light away from the mirror before it can reflect your camera?

Just watched this. What do we think? Is a film like this more effective than a documentary like inside job?

I work in the Finance industry and this was a fucking brilliant movie from my perspective. It was very realistic, they didn't dumb down anything (except the weird intermissions). If you don't know how OTC trading works, you will probably miss 50% of the tension and "thriller"-feel of this movie.

There's nothing more nerve wrecking than having information worth billions of dollars but no good way to take a position on it.

The only thing my own cuckservative senses didn't like was the stuff at the end. Banking reform DID happen. Basel III forces banks to hold a shit ton of capital for every CDO-type contract they have. Banks in general must hold a lot more capital and are less likely to fail. Also, rating agencies are made much more obsolete. A bank can no longer just point to a AAA by a ratings agency to justify something being triple A. They have to take personal responsibility for it. Also all references to ratings agency requirements were struck from all laws and government rules.

Sounds good. But is it enough to avoid another catastrophe?

>But is it enough to avoid another catastrophe?

It's unlikely the catastrophe comes from the same source, let's put it like that. Of course if the rules are changed (reverted) anything is possible.
>>
>>64407976
Right, but you don't know the risks they are facing or the financial industry hurdles they must overcome. For example I doubt many people understood well the difference of shorting/going long the BB tranches vs the AA tranche. Especially why the strategy of that Morgan Stanley trader who (correctly) shorted the BB, but (incorrectly) went long the AAA to finance it.

I'm glad they included the whole bit about the counter party risk with Bear Stearns though.
>>
>>64408033

Okay, so, if catastrophes come from various sources, surely we should be vigilant, and the legal structure of banking should reflect the need for monitoring not only what has caused problems in the past, but just risk taking in general?

It just seems to me from the little I have seen and read, that there's more than a simple regulatory problem. The problem lies in at the very heart of financial culture.

Should we not treat bankers like wolves at the door from here on out? At least until they have several decades of proving otherwise under their belts?
>>
>>64408190
I could tell Christian Bale could have fucked up when he didn't take into account people pulling money out of his fund in panic and still having to pay premiums with voided contracts from not enough money in his fund
>>
>>64408275
>but just risk taking in general?

That's what most of the new regulation is about, luckily. The new Basel III has tow important things. The first is just an across the board capital requirement hike that painfully (for the bank shareholders) reduces their risk.

The other is stress testing where they come up with all sorts of weird scenarios that could fuck up a bank and see if it would go bust or not. An example could be disintegration of EU + collapse of Chinese government (and their nationalized banks) at the same time. Or simply a 50% drop in stocks plus +5% hike in interest rates.
>>
>>64408383
Yeah. The benefit of running a hedge fund is that you can tell your investors to fuck off and freeze withdrawals ... for a while.

Better yet, what happens if you are in the middle of two mirrors facing eachother, you take a photo at one then move away faster than the speed of light?
Wouldn't the light start bouncing permanently AND a infinite amount of photos would happen?!

A mirror is just blank if no one is looking at it. It's like those particles that behave differently when you look at them.
