I'm not putting much effort into this at all. I don't see how any of those movies would have been anything other than exactly the shit they are, no matter who penned them. We do know Star Wars can be done properly, so whatever they put out will be a gauge of whether they have any talent than "Nutty Professor 2" of all things.

Well it makes sense. You have Republic Soldiers with standard Republic Armor, and Vehicles. When the Clone Troopers came they adopted Armor, and Vehicles which looked similar to it. Then when the Republic turned to Empire the designs were changed up a bit again.
Also, this is EU stuff but the Star Wars Galaxy is in a state of technological summit so to speak. Advances come very slow, since most fields have reached a wall in terms of how much they can be advanced. You also have to take in to account that its galaxy wide. Some planets might not be as advance as others, and things might come slow. When it comes to galaxy wide stuff, 2000 years is nothing.
